Replacing strut module, need brand advice

I need to replace my strut modules. Should I use the OEM or should I use a better replacement part?

Which model? Sport model Coupe or Sedan RWD, it's tricky as Nissan doesn't sell the Tokicos any more and KYB defaults all models now to the same PNs as well; you will end up with a mix of Journey and Sport, which isn't ideal.

For AWD or anything Journey, KYB is a goto for most. I ran them on my G35S back when KYB sold two different PNs for the G and they were excellent.

I have the same question/issue. My 2011 Journey w/Sport & Premium packages is in need of new struts and shocks. It has 130K miles and one of the front struts is leaking. I have searched a bit and can't really find a definitive answer, but does the Sport suspension use different struts than the standard sedan? I will most likely go with KYB as there doesn't appear to be many options. For the rear shocks, KYB's website and RockAuto only show one model, the 349096 Excel-G for all models of the sedan. For the front, KYB's site only shows the SR4646 & SR4647 for all sedan type. But RockAuto shows those for the Journey, but shows SR4809 and SR4810 for the Coup, Base, Journey or Sport (w/o 4 wheel steering). Can I assume these are the ones I should use on my Sport sedan? KYB says they are for the Coup and I am wating to hear back from theirt tech support to see if that will fit my car. Is there any real difference between the Journey Sport and the 6MT besides the 6MY have a manual transmission. Aren't then suspensions basically the same?
Thanks!

For the Sport model, you have several options:

1.
Tokico, or OEM Sport Dampers. Discontinued in the Americas, but available through Japanese parts retailers like Amayama.

Start at post #10305 here: https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-sed...today-687.html

2,
Adjustable aftermarkets.
  • Tein EnduraPro Plus
  • Koni Sport Shocks "Yellows"

You will find that everything "OEM" one can buy now in the states is no longer offered in a "Sport" model RWD version, only Journey: Sway Bars, Springs, Dampers, Steering Rack - One PN for all models.

I wouldn't recommend either one based on personal experience. The Konis ride too rough. I am using them with IPL springs, if that makes a difference. The Teins ride way better but didn't last long.

I have come to a similar conclusion.

I plan on buying another set of Tokicos next year from Amayama. Cart has been staged per below (Dipstick parts are also shown).

You may want to make sure Amayama can ship the shocks. Because those items are gas pressurised many vendors and carriers won't ship them- at least not via air.

Even domestically there are shipping restrictions akin to lithium batteries. When I bought my Koni's they had to go (slow) ground even though I wanted/ was willing to pay "priority." So, just a heads up

My cart is similar, but I didn't include the nuts. This diagram seems to indicate that they are included with the strut.

I wouldn't bet on the nuts being included. They weren't included when I bought the mounts. I'd err on the side of caution and get them.

Here's the the struts/shock setup through Partsouq. Everything is coming from Japan, so they may be using the same source for parts. I'm familiar with the shipping restrictions around batteries, but wasn't familiar with ones related to pressurized dampers.

I'm guessing that duties have not been added below, so the two sources cost roughly the same.

It may/ not be a issue or perhaps it depends on the seller/ carrier. I just know that when I bought my Koni's it took forever and day for them to ship from California because neither FedEx or UPS would accept the shipment using "Air" service- they had to go ground.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And, personally, I would not trust DHL to ship a box of saltine crackers across the street. Too many issues with them in my region but YMMV.

My work only uses DHL for shipping evaluation boards and samples, so I am well aware of their nuance. You were not happy with the Koni's right? There are very few reviews on both the Tein's and Koni's.

My car rides nice and handles well, so I'm worried I will screw something up with aftermarket dampers as the OEM ones are matched perfectly to the Swift springs.
