Posted this on the Q50 forum, figured I would post it here. Don't need to use this camera, but I highly recommend the power adapter for the rear view mirror, makes for a very clean install.
I switched to a compact dash cam for my Q and G. It is a Affver 4K front facing dash cam.
The cam is super compact and is very easy to setup. It also has a nice touch screen on it and display. The unit will also announce "start recording" when it is powered, which is nice queue as you know it is on. Can also tap the touch screen and it will turn on if powered.
One thing I did different is, I got a rear view mirror to dash cam power adapter. I wanted to get one from Dongar Technologies, but they were out of stock until the winter.
So I got one from SSXIE, it worked perfect, plugged it into my mirror and then used the supplied USB power cord. The USB adapter part has some double sided tape, so I stuck on the back of the mirror.
As for the dash cam, it uses 3M VHB tape, but they give you electrostatic film to attach to the windshield first, then mount the cam. I would recommend using the film, as the VHB can be very difficult to get off.
Using this dash cam with a SanDisk microSDXC UHS-I 128GB card. Dash cam can except up to a 256GB card.
I found the included tape was not strong enough and the USB power adapter would detach. I used some 3M VHB tape, and cut it into two small strips. I made sure they were attached to the adapter and then used some masking tape on it for a day to make sure it really attaches to the mirror.
Thanks a lot for sharing Krzysztof47, I’m overdue for a dash cam and this one looks right up my alley (limited install difficulty and out of the way).
Very good, happy to help. Don't need to get this dash cam I use, I would recommend a rear view mirror power adapter, makes it a super clean install.
I wanted to get the one from Dongar but they were out so I got one from SSXIE. Dash Cam turns on when the car is turned on. Have the same setup in both the G and Q.
If your rearview mirror has Homelink you can use mirror taps to tap into the mirror to have it power the cam 24/7. That's why I used the Escort M2 so I can power my radar detector also with the 1 power cord. I just have the wire going into the headliner under the wire cover.
