Rear brake pads - wrong size?

Hello from Germany 😇🤗😎

I bought a 2009 G37X sedan a few weeks ago.

I wonder if the pre-owner bought the right sized brake pads for the rear.
It looks like the pad could use more of the disc/ it looks too small somehow?🤔

But I can't find any other pads in the popular online carparts-shops. I'll post a photo from my car; it looks like there ist only half of the disc used to brake 👀

Any suggestions? Ist this right? Is this the way it should be?

Thank you
Greetings,- Dennis

Hello Dennis. For the non-sport brakes, that is what I would expect. My old G35's rear pads were even more tiny. But for the stock non-sport rears normally about half of the disc is swept area. You can see the the bottom of the brake carriers are as low as the pads will go, and your pics show that the pads are fitting the brake carrier perfectly, so I expect your pads are correct. If you check the backing plate of the pads, you should see that the piston's imprint/marks/dirt are roughly centered on the plate.

Remember that for a front-engine car with street suspension, ~70-80% of braking is accomplished by the fronts alone due to weight transfer, so you normally need a lot smaller pads on the rear.

Good luck,

Rick

Hey Rick,

sorry for my late response! - Thank you for your answer

I don't know if there was a "sport brake" available in germany. But you're right.. it would be very bad if the rear pads would be much bigger and the car would nearly crash on hard breaking
