I got into another accident on December 24 due to the slippery road. This time I crashed into the back of another vehicle. to avoid a bigger collision Just before the impact, I was able to turn the wheel to the right.
It took me two weeks to get a hold of the insurance company, Zenith Insurance; they scheduled an appraiser to take some pictures, and after taking the pictures, he said not to bring it to the garage and to wait for their call first, which is weird.
On January 20, I called Zenith, and the agent said they would declare the car totalled.
I don't know why, but I'm not ready to let her go yet. Haha, I may just keep it and get some doors from the scrap yard. but I wouldn't mind getting a Q50, but I am not ready to make monthly payments now.
Tks for the advice, My friend told me that there's a 2009 g37xs white at Kenny u-pull scrap yard and its 2h away from ottawa. I may have to go get those doors and put them it would cost around $140. I may get some extra part too while at it lol.
So here it is, I spoke with the insurance today and they are offering me $10 298 CDN ( $7660.86 U.S) tax included for the car. If I decided to keep it, they will give me $7 123 CDN ( $5298.92 U.S )
So I will keep it, take the money and get 2 doors from the junk yard for $150 CDN ($111 U.S ).
But I stumble on this baby haha https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/...emium/m5661776
How does future insurance work on a salvaged car? Liability only?
I'm interested in the answer as well. I see alot of Red Sport 400s with low miles carrying "Branded Titles", but they are still 32Kish. If one cannot obtain full coverage, then you'd need to pay out of pocket to repair a car that you are still making payments on (would the bank allow this?).
Also curious as to what level of damage was done to a 60K dollar car to deem it a total loss.

Flood damage, more than likely.
It varies from state to state but generally, most insurers will not offer collision or comprehensive coverage on "branded titles" which, as a result, prevents most lenders from offering financing.

That's a good Question. I just forwarded couples of questions to my insurance, but I'm sure they will insured it but after the repairs are done, I am sure it would have to pass inspection according to this information found online.Brand types are:
Vehicles from another Canadian or U.S. jurisdiction that are registered in Ontario will have their vehicle brand carried over, with the exception of the “Rebuilt” brand, which will be registered as “Salvage”.
None
A vehicle branded as “None”:
is a default brand applied to all new vehicles
may have been damaged or rebuilt before March 31, 2003
may have been damaged, but not to a degree that meets our branding criteria (for example, deemed a total loss)
may never have been in a collision
Salvage
A vehicle branded “Salvage”:
has been written-off as a total loss
can be repaired or used for parts or scrap
has been branded as “Rebuilt” in another Canadian or U.S. jurisdiction and has been branded “Salvage” when being registered in Ontario
If a vehicle with a “Salvage” brand is repaired, it must be inspected by an authorized technician and pass a structural inspection. If it passes this inspection, it can be re-branded as “Rebuilt”.
Rebuilt
A vehicle branded “Salvage”, once repaired, can receive the brand “Rebuilt”.
For a vehicle to qualify as “Rebuilt”:
the owners must have photographs of the vehicle’s damaged state, document(s) and a detailed invoice(s) showing major components used to rebuild the vehicle, as well as additional documents
unless the vehicle was previously branded “Rebuilt” from another jurisdiction, all salvage vehicle inspections require an insurance estimate
all rebuilt vehicles entering Ontario for registration will have their brand of “Rebuilt” downgraded to “Salvage”. These vehicles will require a structural inspection from an authorized technician at a ministry-licensed Motor Vehicle Inspection Station to be registered for road use in Ontario.

My insurer said the cost to fix or replace the doors, find the part and labour exceeds, its market value but its still drivable.
A salvage vehicle has been deemed a “total loss” by a licensed insurance provider following a collision, natural disaster, riot, or other incident. This means that the As a result, it’s not worth it for the insurance company to cover the damage. You cannot register, drive, or insure a salvage title vehicle in Canada until it is repaired, inspected, and deemed safe, according to the Insurance Bureau of Canada. And unless you put in the necessary work to restore it, the salvage title remains intact indefinitely.
A rebuilt title car is one that was initially assigned a salvage title but has undergone extensive repairs and passed a rigorous inspection to ensure it’s safe to drive.
The regulatory standards that a salvage vehicle must meet to obtain a rebuilt title vary from province to province.
Thanks for clarifying. The last 'totaled' vehicle I had was a mcy some 30 years ago. I didn't want the bike back anyway.
I guess if the car is repaired sufficiently and passes insurance inspection then it should be considered road worthy. Still, there must of been more damage than just the doors/fender for them to write it off entirely? Or the numbers just don't add up from the insurance perspective to justify the repair?
My Lancer was "totaled" in Dec 2020. After being fixed and brought back to rebuilt, I dropped full coverage, but kept comp coverage so I'm still covered if I were to hit another deer.
Full coverage is available and there is no difference in rates.
Please quote your sources. Which insurance companies still offer FULL comp/collision coverage on a totalled G37? How would any insurance company pay for repairs if the totalled car was badly damaged again?

Unless there's something they are not telling me. I know they are pushing people to get rid of their old cars and get newer models.

Isn't that liability coverage only? I was told that if you get into another accident, they wont repair anything just send it straight to the junk.

I email the agent in charge on my claim and this were the questions i have asked.
I have couple of questions, if I decide to keep it, would it be branded salvage? and should it have to pass inspection if I repairs the doors and to have it branded rebuilt?
How does future insurance work on a salvaged car? is it Liability only?
If I decide to give it will I be provided with a rental for a while to allow me to search for a new car also or its my business ?
and he responded with"The vehicle has been branded “None,” which means regardless of what you do there won’t be any branding on the vehicle or vehicle’s history.
Regarding future insurance, underwriting may ask for proof for repairs, if proof of repairs cannot be provided then they will only renew a liability only policy.
At this time since your vehicle is drivable, you can drive your vehicle until you decide whether you’d like to give the vehicle to us or retain it. Once you find a new vehicle (if you want us to salvage it) then we can pick it up after you’ve received delivery of your new vehicle."

State Farm. I have comp on my R titled Lancer. I could have kept full coverage.
