Buying a used G37

Hey everyone! Im looking for some advice and suggestions about a G37 I want to buy. I found a 2013 G37 sedan (either journey or sport not sure) with 120k miles on it selling for $11,500 clean title. I checked the carfax, it’s been maintained pretty well and only minor accidents reported. This will be my first ever car that I own, but I want it to last me at least 4-5 years (I’ll maintain it really well) and I’m excited to own a g37. Need to know if it’s worth the money and other suggestions you guys might have. Thanks!!

Base model Journey vs. RWD Sport package on a 10 year old G37 is probably about a $2000 difference, so it matters whether or not this car has the Sport Package. Not just from the perspective of having a better car, but when assessing the sale price. Either way, with that many miles and age, you'll probably have at least $2000 is parts & maintenance that first year.

Is a 10 year old base Journey Sedan with 120k miles worth $11,500? I don't think so, but the market has been weird for a while now. Is that same car with the RWD sport package worth $11,500? Probably, yes.

Sport Package on a RWD Sedan gives you big brakes, larger wheels, sport seats, sport suspension, close ratio steering, flappy paddles and VLSD... along with other details. It's definitely the better car.

Either way, heck of a first car. Good luck.

And what about rebuilt and salvage title cars? Is there a chance that there are some that are still in good condition or should I not mess with them at all?

Salvage titles are exactly what they are... meaning the car's value is underwater to insurance estimates on repair costs.

It doesn't mean the car is bad, however if you or your associates don't have the wherewithal to assess the value of a salvage title, then just avoid them.

Yeah I think I’ll just stick to clean title for the most part then. Btw the seller confirmed it was a rwd sport package. Is there any noticeable differences in the two trims that I could tell from just pictures of the car to make sure seller isn’t fibbing? And sorry back to my original question, do you think a 2013 g37 with 120k miles will last me 4-5 years minimum or up to 200-250k miles? (I plan to do many 0-60s with it too lol so with that in mind)

Post up photos and the forum can help you sort out if it is a Journey vs Sport.

Salvaged titles are a roll of the dice. It may be totally fine, it may not be, How good are you at fixing mechanical things on your own?

Either way, pay the ~$200-$300 for a pre-purchase inspection from a competent mechanic. If the seller wont let you do this, run away.

The most obvious visible cues about the sport package:

G37S badge on trunk
Akebono big brakes all around
18" sport wheels, staggered
Sport seats
Flappy paddles
Front sport package bumper

If it's been maintained, sure, it can last. But there's no guarantee on anything that isn't new with a factory warranty.

If this is your first car, though, you're going to hate the gas mileage. It's not good.
