I'm a noob when it comes to wheels so please help me out here.
I have a 2010 G37x Sedan that came with 17" wheels. And since I needed new tires anyway, I bought a set of used Infiniti OEM 19" wheels from Facebook Marketplace. They are 245/45R19, with an offset of 47mm. I understand they're 1" larger in diameter and slightly wider.
Under normal driving condition, they're fine. However, during hard cornering, especially when turning right, I can hear something (metal) rubbing, though I'm not sure what.
Can anyone offer some insights as to what's rubbing? And what are my options to deal with this?
so when moving up wheel diameter, you have to make sure you get the correct diameter tires that match oem.
if you orignally had 17" wheels, your tires were most likely 225/55R17 which is a 26.7" diameter
with your new 19" wheels and you wanting a 245 width, the correct size should be 245/40R19.
Your current 245/45R19 is a 27.7 inch diameter, making it an inch taller than stock. Hope the pictures will help visualize the relationship of the diameters.
The width and offset of your new 19" wheels are conservative enough you shouldn't have issues with rubbing with the correct tires.
Agreed, the 19" OEM rims should not rub unless something else is broken or falling off. Another consideration is a broken wheel bearing, which tend to make louder noises during cornering as you described.
The 19" rims with a 245/45 tire should still be ok. Jack the car up, take the front tires off and see where it is rubbing. If it rubs as much as you say you should see where the wheel/tire is rubbing on the car.
Could be rotor and dust shield rubbing too. My fiancées Yaris had an issue where the dust shield clanged against the rotor when turning hard left. Some percussive maintenance and it's been fine for a few years now.
The dust shield sits just inboard of the brake rotor. It's the flimsy-ish piece of metal behind what should be your rock-solid brake. It is very easily bent, and since it sits so close to the rotor, also very easy to rub against it. You can probably just push them away from the rotors a little with your hands. That's what I did to eliminate one of them rubbing on the rotor.
Not bad at all. Definitely better than 17" rims and I don't think I have ever seen a G with EX wheels on it. They suit your silver G well.
Thanks! Yes, they look much better than the 17" OEM or my 18" aftermarket Enkei. I just gotta get proper sized tires when these are worn out. Right now I can't use my spare if I ever breakdown, good thing I have auto club coverage.
