Got my wheels and tires from Fitment industries yesterday, had to throw them on. Never mind the 12" of snow that dropped the other day. Upgraded from stock 17's. They look great, but Holy Wheel Gap! I just had KYB's installed on stock springs and love the ride quality, so I am hesitant to lower it. Almost wished I had gone to 19's. These tires are a lot lower profile (225/40/18) vs my other tires.
You answered your own question, the tires are much lower profile. You only go down in profile if you go up in size of the wheel. Even if you lower it now, the wheel gap will be exaggerated and the car won't ride that well.
Also I'm not sure on the width of your wheels but I would imagine you would get a wheel where you would want at least a 245 wide tire.

Thanks for the input! The wheels are 18X8.5 38, tires 225/40R18. I just took it out for spin, roads are dry. Ride is better, always is with new rubber. Also tires are quiet and handling is great as usual. I am already getting used to the gap, but it was jarring at first compared to stock. I didn't check the speedo, it was always indicated about +5.
What do you mean by won't ride well lowered? Doesn't it suffer a bit anyway? Also agreed, a 245/45 would look better.
Smaller diameter = more revs per mile. Probably a good thing if you speed. At 60 indicated actual speed will be ~56.
What was the reasoning in going with that specific tire size?
My main reason was the recommendation from Fitment industries, and the few pics of G's they had on that site. I was more hung up on wheel choice. My stock tires were 225/55/17. Huge difference in retrospect. I'm all in on these tires until replacement in 18 months or so. Next time a 245 would you say? I am already looking at Swift spring setups, I just went down a major rabbit hole. Again.
I don't know what fitment industries is, but I suppose this is a good lesson learned...

Yes, the michelin ps as4 225/40/18 has a load index of 92. According to the owner's manual, lowest index is 94. Of course this assumes a fully loaded car at gross vehicle weight.

Yes, this forum has been a wealth of info and you are right. I stand before the forum humble ready to get flamed. Unfortunatly the tires are on the car, horse has left the barn. I mean I do have my stock setup still, and will look into a possible swap for 245's. As this was an online retailer, probably a big hit on shipping and who knows what else. It would be a major pita at least.

It wouldn't hurt to call up some major chain stores in your area that sell michelin tires. They may be able to do something for you. Of course you'd have to pay labor to R&R the tires with something else, but at least you end up with the proper size on the car.
Edit: Chatted with michelin support. They say any authorized michelin dealer can make a claim against that offer. They just have to be willing to do so.

Yeah I just confirmed all that on a chat as well with Michelin. I can find a local Michelin dealer to swap. Probably going with 245/45/18, that will fill up the wheel well a bit better. Dude you are the best.
You're welcome. 245/45/18 is a stock size for rear tires on a rwd S car, fronts were 225/50/18. If you have an X trim, I think you'll be ok with a square set up with the 245/45/18 size all around.
My stinger came with 225/45/18. The OE tires were trash (bridgestone re97as-02). I went with 245/40/18 michelin ps as4. This kept the stock diameter (within a few revs/mile) and fit the the 18 x 8.0 wheels. I may go with 245/45/18 next time for a more comfortable ride... we'll see.
