Twin turbo kit

Hey guys so I’m new to the g37 and I’m down to drop 10k on a twin turbo kit from AAM on my 2013 7 speed sedan. Sure 6 speed tranny is good or wtv, but what do you guys think about the 7 speed on turbo? Aren’t these cars known for “strong” transmissions? OR i could drop that same amount of money on the stillen SC.I just want an honest opinion on how it would go for my car, it’s bone stock with 105k miles.

Transmission aren't good for holding torque ,you will need to upgrade. Not sure what your budget is but you will need more than the turbo kit to have it running. Example injectors, pump, plugs, ext.

Right I have accounted for that, but the stillen SC might be the best route for me tbh it’s a bit cheaper. I know I’ll probably have do the 3.69 swap on the car, unless I go 4.10, But I’d have to research on that. Other than that, do you know any good brands that are best for the tranny I got by any chance? Same for pumps, maybe a Walboro 255?

Start by searching key words like "turbo" or "7 speed" to get an idea of FI and the 7 speed.

That would be your best bet to get a good idea of what to do with this car

From what I've read, Stillen supposedly researched/tested the supercharger on the 7 speed and may have stated that it's fine on the 7 speed (?)

Yea 4,10 are to short for that transmission. Honestly I wouldn't bother changing them if you are going to boost.look up lv 10 transmission but I've heard that's a hit or miss as well. If it where my build i would go with the newer platform transmission off the 3.0 tt.I believe those hold up pretty well.As far as pumps go you want to ask yourself how much power are you looking to make as s/c require more fuel than a tt setup. 450 minimum. Stillen original setup isn't great either unless you are getting a a2a set up. Check out ROTREX C38R Supercharger kit by top guns speed works. Comes with a full filter and can run higher boost than stillen.

I think for what you're looking for, the TopGunz A2A kit @Birdie mentioned is the set-up to consider. Figure another 1,500 2,000 for supporting mods (not including the tune; and assuming you've already gone to wider wheels and upgraded the suspension). As for the transmission, the manual is the strong unit; not the AT. When I went down the FI research rabbit hole, 1-4 are the 'strong' gears while 5-7 are the weaker. Stay out of boost in 5-7 and it may extend the life of the stock unit until you can figure out what to do for a replacement.

IMO, doing the VR 7AT swap is more advantageous than building the stock unit. There was a member here who went max effort with the 7AT and built it as far as it could go. He ended up leaving the platform due to the constant AT failures.

If you're dead set on going turbo, check out the SOHO kits. Much more reliable and efficient than the AAM kits. They also have an amazing supercharger kit as well that's vastly better than the Stillen kit. It's fairly equivalent to the TopGunz kit.

As far as transmissions go, the stock G transmission isn't great. A few pulls and the 4th - 7th gear clutch packs fail and get really weak. The converter is also known for failing in the locked position, causing the car to stall immediately when in drive or reverse at a stop. A transmission from a VR30 platform is a fairly affordable upgrade. There are a few options to choose from here, but in a nutshell either swap the TCM from your VQ trans into the VR trans and go, or I believe there was someone mentioning that you can get the VR TCM flashed now to work but can't confirm that. I did the swap and used my VQ TCM and solenoids to be safe. You'll need to cut the bellhousing to make room for the crank sensor, as the VR crank sensor is in a different position than the VQ. You'll also need to clearance the trans mount to fit, as the VR trans is longer and the mounts won't line up at first. You also will need a shorter drive shaft. I had a custom driveshaft made (just a cheap one) that is roughly 1/2" shorter than the stock sedan driveshaft. Other than that, it's fairly plug and play, and the VR trans gets more clutch packs per gear, and a larger torque converter so it's a lot more robust. Lots of folks pushing a good amount of torque through them without issues.

I think you should make a plan and go from there.

Is it your daily ? - At 105k dropping 10k on it will create a big change in driveability until you get everything set up.

What forced induction will benefit you in the long run? Do you want to deal with heat issues with engine mounted turbos/ slipping belts and SC noise at idle

Transmission - Best bet is to start researching the VR transmission, plenty of Q owners making close to 500fttq on them holding nicely

Tuning - make sure you befriend a tuner or are close to a tuner since your first months of tinkering with the new setup can have your car running off until the tuning is completed. Tuning take time and many tries to get it right.

What is your level of expertise on mechanical fixes since this transition will have you opening your hood or training you in how to fix couplers etc.
