Exhaust Leak - Advice Needed

Hello, so my 2013 G37x sedan (46K miles) sprung an exhaust leak last night. I started it up this morning (colder so i can see exhaust easier) and it appears to be leaking at this flange, under the driver's footwell - see pic below. I live in northern WI, so yes, it's salty around here in the winter unfortunately, and it's my daily driver.
My questions: Are the G's known for the early rotting of exhaust? My Toyotas have given us zero issues with exhaust (knock on wood) and they are/were older by far.
How does my exhaust look in general to you? Do you think i can get away with a gasket here, or does it look too rotted and the pipes will need replacing? If so, can you tell a noob what pipes i would need/what i'm looking at? I'm not opposed to getting an aftermarket exhaust (that's a little louder than stock but remember i haul kids in this thing) if the price is somewhat comparable to stock. Any help would be much appreciated! The top pic is the offending area, the others are to show the condition of the rest and if i'm looking at replacing more..

Leaky drivers side flange (is this the back of the cat??) Is that fraying in the flex a cause for concern?

Passenger side same area, no leaks yet

My car gets parked less than 100 feet from the beach so I feel your pain. I was in your position too and assume you live somewhere costal as well? It looks pretty bad and your probably better off just replacing versus trying to fix whatever is causing the leak. I have IPL and liked the exhaust note so I wanted to find a replacement one but couldn’t. I did however find a Nismo exhaust (very similar) pretty cheap on offer up. I had someone slap that sucker on and I should be good to go for the foreseeable future.

Hey SobeIPL, no coast or beaches around here - I'm in northern WI :P Just lots of salt in the winter. So you think it's rusty enough that i'll be seeing more problems soon? What am i looking at? Cat-back? The exhaust you mentioned - does it fit the bill for *slightly* more aggressive than stock? I want it to be noticeable when i get on it a little, but no droning at 50mph or up would be ideal. My wife would kill me also.

My cats aren’t in the greatest shape but still serviceable and I needed a quick fix. I’m not a mechanic and hard say but if you aren’t throwing codes you could probably get away with cat back. Chances are though if your exhaust is starting to fail, it will likely keep failing in other spots so may as well replace it. The IPL/Nismo exhaust is a true dual exhaust. It sounds a lot more throaty than the normal G exhaust but not raspy at all. Mostly the rasp you hear on Gs is more from them replacing the cats versus the exhaus fwiw. It’s not loud in that when you drive through a neighborhood all the boomers wont be like “these darn kids with there loud mufflers”. But when you go WOT you can hear it growling. The IPL exhaust is the best sounding exhaust I’ve heard on any G (just my opinion). If I had to buy an actual after market exhaust I think I would get the magna flow. You don’t hear people taking about them a lot but if you looking it, it’s literally a IPL replica. The Nismo 370z exhaust that I have is much easier to find (there was dozens for sale probably on the 370 forum when I was looking) than IPL since the Nismo Zs are more common and someone buying a Z is more likely to change their exhaust. So to summarize, what I would I do if I were you? Well I was you 5 months ago. Go to 370z forum, find Nismo exhaust, take to muffler shop for install, move on to next problem your car has, lol.

Good info. So are those the cats right in front of the bad flange then (with the rusty heatshields)? You are saying i can bolt a 370z exhaust on my g37x AWD sedan with little to no modification? If so that'd be great, more options. Cost is prohibitive here also, looking for something that won't break the bank - basically i want to be able to justify the purchase to my wife and compare the better aftermarket to OEM and say, "See, cost is pretty much the same and the aftermarket will sound better" and not be lying.. lol

My bad. I didn’t realize you had a sedan. Someone else will have to chime in about that, I have a coupe. The Nismo exhaust has a shorter mid pipe than the coupe but any muffler shop can weld in an extender. I’m not sure of anything on the sedan. You could probably find a sedan cat back in the classifieds here and just do that. It wouldn’t be an upgrade, but it’ll solve your problem.

The 370Z and G37 coupe exhaust won't fit due to transfer case clearance and mid-pipe length. The G37xS coupe exhaust won't fit due to mid-pipe length. You can try frankensteining pieces onto the exhaust, but you'll have problems down the road.

Don't be like me and replace it in pieces, only to find you'll replace the whole system anyway. You can have someone replace the y-pipe to match exhaust diameters (most aftermarket Y-pipes have a 3 in outlet, which can lead to rasp with the smaller diameter midpipe), but better value to replace the whole thing with a catback.

I found an online site that has the OEM Y-pipe for about $500 shipped. This is tempting to save $800 or so, obviously - Bad idea? What happened with yours? You in the rust belt too?
Assuming it isn't a good idea - I can't seem to find any exact matches for aftermarket exhaust systems for my '13 G37X AWD sedan, any suggestions on where to go?
I can't seem to stomach paying almost 1500k for an exhaust system on a 2013 w/ 46k miles, seems really premature to me. Although i'd love the sound, that's a good amount of cash.

I live in Boston, MA, so my issues stem between salt, rough roads, and poor parts quality. I have 111k miles on my 2013 G37x AWD and try to get the underbody washed frequently after we get snow.

I was hoping to stick with my Vibrant 1790 resonators welded into my mid-pipe and Tanabe Axle-back mufflers (subtle but throaty) but everything before that went out. My catalytic converters went out at 87K miles, so I replaced those with cat deletes which made it louder, but too raspy due to the diameter changes.

Recently, my Y-pipe was breaking down at the flex pipes and the inlet sections that meet the cats. I got quotes ranging between $500-$800 since the flanges were not re-usable. It was too pricy for me, so instead I opt'ed for an an Invidia exhaust system off RCA Garage for $800 and am planning on selling my mufflers to save me around $320 not including install. The exhaust system should arrive mid-January.

But as mentioned, you can easily find an old OEM mid-pipe and axleback or if it works out, I'll even sell you my mid-pipe and axle-back if you want something nice and don't plan to get HFCs.

So your whole exhaust went out too eventually? Ick. So the cat delete makes things too loud? Just preparing for the worst. How much is that?

I’d bet I have the same y pipe issue you do. Do you have a link to where u got your exhaust? I went to that site and couldn’t find an Invidia system for our cars at all. I can’t find a cat back system anywhere for my ‘13 g37x sedan. Does anyone have some insight on where to get exhaust? Can I shop for a different model and just have to make a small mod or something? It’s like this model doesn’t exist, or my googling has gotten rusty.

If I had a fix for my y pipe, your axle back setup would interest me, as long as it’s not all rusty 😀

ConceptZ also has it, but at a premium since most places including where I ordered from have it in backorder through mid-January.

My exhaust isn't perfect, but there's no rust. It's just surface wear from use so the best thing to do scuff the surface and use some exhaust paint. That might actually be an option for your current exhaust as well!

Well my shop said my whole system cat-back is bad, so looking at the Invidia Q300 system. Thanks for the links, i did check both out. Seems everywhere is backordered, including ConceptZ. Amazon has it for a higher price - 1100 shipped. I'm leaning towards just getting it there so i can get it sooner than late Jan/early Feb. I also need brakes, which are going to be crazy expensive too - like $900 or so total for front and rear (not including any possible calipers!). They said rotors nowadays can't be turned very much before they get too thin and can warp, so they just replace them. Seems a bit high? They are a good shop, but i always thought brakes should be fairly cheap.

I did the whole OE Rotor thing one too many times. I eventually replaced the rotors with DBA slotted rotors and have not looked back. No more pad deposits (or warpage to some) or durability issues. They've been incredible. Slotted rotors make it difficult to build up pad deposits which is what makes most of our cars rumble when braking. Depending on how long you want to keep the car, get slotted rotors vs OE replacements.

Not to hijack the thread...

+1 for DBA Rotors (mine are 4000 Series, drilled/slotted)
4 years and several panic stops (damn tourists) with zero issues.
