Over the past year, the dashboard of my 2011 G37 has developed so me cracks. Some pictures are attached. Note that the dashboard is still soft, so the cracks are not due to it becoming brittle.
Any thoughts on
1. How can I prevent from more like this to happen, and
2. How can I repair the existing cracks.
This is a common issue for these cars, mine has a few cracks as well. Im not sure how you can fix it but i just ordered a dash cover from amazon and that was enough for me.
Thanks for the link. No, I am not familiar with the melting dashboard issue. Is it that the dashboard becomes sticky?
yes! It becomes sticky and it starts to look as if the dashboard melted. Usually happens towards the lower end of where the windshield and the dashboard meet. That’s another common thing for our cars.
I ended up finding a cheap replacement dashboard that is in almost perfect condition (from ebay a year or so ago, maybe $400 shipped?) and plan on doing the install myself once my current dash has completely gone to ****.
Mine is cracked all the way around the entertainment center, and has stickiness near the window due to sun damage before I owned it. Even after a sun shade, in FL heat, it tends to just continue cracking over and over.
Obviously not ideal but nothing Infiniti will do about it other than blame misuse of cleaners/chemicals rather than accept fault with a **** faux-leather/plastic they decided to use in these & the M series. I believe Nissan used it in their cars too.
I know the dash replacement is a pretty rough repair but I think it's the only way to fully restore this. Then, garage kept moving forward should hopefully allow that to last the length of the car/next 5-6 years.

Actually, the Y50 generation used that type of faux leather plastic combo. The Y51 has an all leather dashboard with some areas using better quality plastics that have then been passed down to the G’s replacement, the Q50.
