Anyone powder coated their emblems?

Hey all,
Wondering if anyone has powder coated their emblems? If so, how'd you get auto quality adhesive tape back on the emblem to re-apply it to the car?

I used 3M strong adhesive double-sided tape o get it back on the trunk. Check out AutoFlex paint if you're looking for a glossy finish that's easy to apply. I wouldn't waste the $ on powder coating a small piece as that if that's even possible on a plastic piece.

Mainly thinking about the trunk emblems, are those not metal? Is the front Mt Fuji not metal?

Go to Home Depot and buy some Indoor/Outdoor mounting tape. Cut little pieces for the back of your emblems, apply them, then trim the excess with some cuticle scissors. It's a very painstaking process, but not impossible. Just take your time.

The Fuji isn't so bad, but all those little letters, argh! It might be worth it to drop the $50 on a new OEM set, which will come prepackaged in perfect alignment on a single sheet, all ready to apply. It's much, much easier that way. Easier to paint, too, now that I think about it.

And just to pile on... dude, they're plastic.

Although wouldn't it be awesome to have them custom made out of polished aluminum? Completely impractical, but I'm sure there are artisans out there who have the skills. Man, I've got to stop watching the Velocity channel.

OK, well that certainly nixes the powdercoating idea. I was planning purchasing a set of Mt Fuji and G37S emblems and painting them and then putting them on the car. I was planning on eliminating the I N F I N I T I emblem.

Emblems are one of the few items where plastidip really is the way to go, it's simple to use, easy to remove overspray, and only costs 5 or 6 bucks. I'd go that route if you want an easy & affordable change back there

Going off memory here....but I vaguely recall guys on the mazda forum dropping their emblems in bleach for a day or so and that would remove the chrome to the point they could sand it and lay down some paint.

annnd here you go:

Not really sure how it looks that different than dipping the emblems and laying on a glossifier

Brake fluid and oven cleaner are two other chemicals that take chrome off plastic.

Wear suitable protection, all three chemicals are noxious and can damage your skin.

So how do people do the sort of "black chrome" look? Is that something other than paint?

^Yup, 3m 1080 [insert color]. Definitely worth the headache. Takes a bit to get used to vinyl but once you do, each project becomes a bit easier. All in the touch.
