Metal Shift **** owners - Chime In

Hey all,
About to do a few mods and I've heard that it's nearly impossible to remove the stock shift **** without destroying it. And...I don't love it anyway. So...Thinking about doing a Titanium shift **** similar to Rochester's teardrop he got from LatheWerks.

But....I live in the South where it gets super hot in the summer. I work from home, but sometimes go out for lunch and it'll sit in the hot southern sun for a couple of hours....does anyone have an all metal shift ****, live where it gets hot and can report on how hot it might get during the summer months? I don't want to have to do what Rochester does in the winter and carry a driving glove for the shifter. Thanks.

I twisted mine right off, first attempt, and sold it for $50 or something like that

I'm in the south too and I can't imagine a metal ****. I had a Lathe Werks round **** with a 1/2" metal band and it gave some nice weight too it and wasn't hot. I see a lot of cars with a crown royal bag, or glove over the shifter in the summer to keep it cool.

I'm interested to see what you come up with. I've had the same kinda boring 370Z **** for a few years and want something new.

I have not had mine during the summer (just installed it recently). I will likely put something over it while it is parked at work. We will see.

I did that the first winter. So the following year I bought the exact same **** design from Lathewerks, but this time in black Copolymer, which doesn't seem to matter how cold it gets. Supposedly it doesn't matter how hot it gets either. Anyway, it's my winter ****.

So maybe Copolymer is an option.

That said, here's a pic of my 450 gram titanium ****:

I'd rather have metal or a leather/metal hybrid like the stock, but most of the stock ones I've seen out there are very expensive, so I might as well upgrade while I'm at it.

How about something like this

Listed as 300 grams. I had this **** on my Legacy GT.

I'm leaning towards this with an extension like Rochester had made to raise it up a little.

Understood. And to be honest, I'm none too fond of how my winter **** looks. The size, feel and temperature is fine, but that plastic look is odd. And it doesn't work at all with my stone interior.

Raceseng has a number of great designs. I've seen a few in person, and they seem like very high quality items.

Lego, look at this: Raceseng Circuit Sphere 100 - M10x1.25mm Shifter Arm

The 100mm height is 25mm higher than my Ti **** design.
  • The perfect height extension you're looking for.
  • A tapered ball design, that you seem to like.
  • A brushed SS base, with a little splash of red or blue in the ring.
  • A textured, Delrin grip for temp extremes, that won't clash with your black interior.
  • Under $100

The only downside is the 255 grams weight. Kind of want a heftier ****. But for under $100... heck, you could buy the thing just to see for yourself. And if it doesn't work out, you could easily sell it for half or more here somewhere.

That would work. Heck, I could probably sell my 370Z **** and partially fund that!

My fave color is blue, but I really don't want a fully blue shift ****. Anyone seen a particularly interesting one with blue accents? (Think Royal Blue).

Hey all...
I'm now thinking hybrid. Can I get some opinions on the following 4 hybrids from Raceseng?

I really wanted one of those (the 3rd one in), but they are a little more than I wanted to spend on a shift ****.

They're all variations on the same theme. That said, I think the round ***** probably feel more right in your hand. And the ones with boot ring trim look more complete than otherwise.

So... left to right, I'd pick #3
