2013 Sport Sedan Steering Whine

Only thread I found was here:
https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-sed...-question.html

I'm not sure if a power steering reservoir would cause the whine. I'm not an idiot I know what power steering column whine sounds like vs wheel bearings etc. I know the sport model came with a different rack. Is it possible the pump is already going?

I only have 75k miles on the car...the noise is not constant in the parking lot and it goes away with rpm's. I can move the car, slap it in neutral and run the rpms to 3k and the power steering issue goes away for obvious reasons.

Is it possible for the rack to be going or the pump at 75000 miles? 175000...sure, fine. But 75000?

I would note that in all fairness I drive my car HARD! Any advice on the matter?

Also found the TSB.

Fluid is completely in spec. So there's no leak. This makes me question if the pump is starting to give signs that it's dying...or is it just normal nissan crap making odd noises?

I had the same problem in my old 2005 Honda Accord as it woould whine Everytime I turned the wheel. This was a result of the O ring from the power steering was loose and allowed air bubbles to get into the power steering fluid. The air bubbles was the reason why it was whining. Replacing the O ring solved the issue.

Now, idk if this is YOur issue, but you can check your PS fluid and see if there are air bubbles in it. Who knows.

I have the same problem on my 2013 the dealer told me it was normal. I don't think it is but my warranty covers me to 100k so I'm not that worried about it

My S sedan has the same noise. Pump is the same between sport and regular sedan. i assume the quicker ratio steering might put a tad bit extra pressure on the pump. my Hicas 240sx made the same sounds when turning from a stoplight.

I have the same exact issue with my car as well. I recently bought a G37S (2011). It has 75k. I just started to notice that my car as as well has a slight whine, sounds like a steering whine. It is not loud, but it's noticeable when the car is not warm. Also, when I drive the car hard, it becomes noticeable afterwards. I'm not sure why it's there.....

YES. Especially noticeable after a hard drive! Like it's a dying cat or something! I wonder if it's the pump dying or something given the modified steering rack for the sport system.

Yesssssss same symptoms here. Has it always been like this? To me, it does not make sense. I think it's time to do a power steering fluid flush. My car prior, a Nissan Altima, developed a horrible whine when it was just barely warming up during cold days switched the PS fluid to Valvoline max life full synthetic atf and it became smooth all over again. At that time, it had about 200k on original PS fluid. My G only has 75k, so idk why it's making that. I heard there was a reservoir replacement for our G's, maybe when we drive it hard fluid starts to bubble? Not sure. But I really hate whines.....

Before you go changing anything, you should get some new fluid in there. Easiest way is to siphon the reservoir, add new fluid, then drive around for a few days to let it mix. Repeat a half dozen times or so. This should exchange the vast majority of the old fluid.

That's exactly what I was planning to do, just like my Altima. I'm just wondering currently what ATF to go with.

anything that meets dexron 3 spec. I'd use a synthetic for better cold flow.

Drained and filled about one quart worth of PS fluid using Valvoline Max Life Full Synthetic ATF. Big difference in steering feel, but unfortunately that whine is still there...Not sure what is now, could be a belt tensioner.

if it is the PS pump, the noise should get louder at full lock. Don't hold it at full lock for too long. Turn all the way to the left, listen for a couple seconds, all the way right, listen for a couple seconds.

Are you sure? Because every car I've ever driven makes a much louder noise when turning at full lock, even when the PS pump is just fine. I'm starting to think it might be the belt tensioner. How much is it to get the PS pump replaced on these cars anyways?
