G lease ending soon, should I get a Q?

I've had three G37x sedans, zero problems with any of them and love the car. Does anyone know how the Q50 compares? I've read several times it is not as fun to drive as the G, and that's half the reason I like the car. If it's a dull drive I'll probably come up with some other idea. I'd appreciate any input from anyone that has driven both.

The drive train is no longer the same, with 3 different turbo engines, as well as a hybrid model. So it's no longer a direct comparison to the G.

I was very underwhelmed by the 3.7L version of the Q50. However, if you think the G37x is fun to drive, and you like turbos, you might have a different opinion. Drive them all, make your own decisions.

Red sport!!!!!!!! All you need is test pipes/exhaust/tune to make insane numbers(425whp/460tq)! Getting there in the g would cost like 10k unless you did all of it yourself. Full bolt on only got me 340 ish whp in my x. But I can Say the q50 (3.7)I rode in, felt like it could use a tune. Throttle response wasn’t as good as my stock g37x. The interior and front fascia is nice in the q, but I love the g37 rear. If j could find the right deal I’d get the red sport. Also I had a 2016 q70s (5.6 sport) loaner that was faster stock than my fbo g37x. I have had a racelogic timer in both and that car did better in everything except 1/4 mile.

Depends on what you want out of the car. If you’re upgrading for better tech and safety features you’ll be quite happy. However I don’t think they offer a better “drive” if you were to compare S model to S model. The Q50s use steer by wire and remove the direct steering shaft connection for the front wheels. This translates to “waiting” for the steering to adapt to the driving mode you are in before it reacts to driver input. So it kind of removes the “pure” aspect of control in my opinion. Speaking of pure, there are also no 6MT models offered. You’ll also want to avoid 2014, it was a redesign year.

I cant speak to chassis because I’m not sure if they continued to use the same chassis from the Z/G, but you could probably split it to two trains of thought (before finances are involved of course):

1. Drivers car: I could make an argument for both tbh. If what you’re after is handling and power, you could opt for a 6MT with forced induction through either a sedan or IPL. If you decided to buy rather than lease, you could take your time and find a bargain and minimize your costs and actually build the car. Or you could opt for the new TT model. With a basic reflash and some plumbing upgrades you’d be making some serious HP, however this would in all likelihood mess with your warranty since I’m assuming you’d be leasing.

2. Creature comfort daily driver: If what you’re after is cabin tech, refined ride, and updated looks, the Q50 is a no-brainer. You’ve already had the G37 flavor, and if driver engagement doesn’t hold a premium to you over the aforementioned, we’re done here: Q50.

*Playing devils advocate*: if you wanted to lease a car that you could still modify and enjoy, I would redirect your attention to something like a newer 335 or 435. The n55 has only gotten better with time and if you’re okay with spending around $3k for go-fast parts you could remove and sell when your lease is up, you could have a 500whp/500wtq monster as a daily for under 5 grand (that’s sub 4 second 0-60 btw).

I’m sure it was neither here nor there but I felt like it was worth mentioning as an alternative. If lease prices were similar or less it might be worth consideration right? Barring any mods at all of course, the Gs were always aimed at the 3 series and both have gotten better and better. I think each camp caters to different preferences? Unless OP isn’t leasing. Then forget I ever said anything about German anything. Been there, done that.

I have been driving a Q50 3.0t for a rental for the last couple weeks. I think its a pretty nice car for a base model automatic. The 3.0t pulls hard. Infotainment is definitely better than the G.

my old roommate went from the G37xS to the Q50S and he said he misses his G. He misses the "fun" part of the G and the growl. He is happy with the styling of the Q, as it seems infiniti tried to tailor towards the more "luxury" consumer when it comes to the Q. But like it has been said in earlier posts, kinda depends on what you want and what type of Q you get i.e. red sport, sport, etc

Everyone said the G37 was to soft compared to the G35.
I have both.
Both are great.
I'll probably go Q in a few years.
These cars are easy to work on and there is plenty of aftermarket support.

I'm not really a gear head or anything. I'm just a working stiff that shleps up and down the highway every day. If I punch the gas and it gives me a nice little kick in the rear, and if it doesn't lean too much in the corners, then I'm good. The only mod I apply to my cars is tree sap.

I do like the kick of the car, although it's variable. I think it must be a computer bug or something. Sometimes I start it up and it is extra torquey, and sometimes it is mellower. I also like that it is great in the ice and snow. Several times I've been through some pretty bad weather in my G's where everyone was wiping out and abandoning their cars, and I had no problems, so there's a trust factor there too.

I think the general consensus is that the Q50 is a little more gentrified, which is too bad. I might get one anyway, but I'll do a few test drives. Thanks for all the replies.
