Vinyl Wrapping the ashtray/storage area

Hey guys, I am just about done wrapping my interior trim pieces with black brushed metallic and it is looking pretty sweet. I am having trouble wrapping the little flap for the ash tray/storage above the gear selector. Any tricks to this? The corners are not sticking well and I will most likely need to redo that. Any input on what worked for you will be greatly appreciated. I think it may help if I was able to completely remove the cover from the mechanism.

I removed everything, and no issues in a few years now.

I did what you did, took it all apart. What would make the ashtray door easier is to be able to the the door itself out of the mechanism so I could wrap it better. I will post pics when I am done and happy with the look.

Maybe you got your hands on the adhesive and it didn't stick well? I removed the ashtray and wrapped it separately and is still as good as day 1.

Maybe, I will re-wrap it. Thank you for your input.

How can we redo the silver trim on the door panels? The paint they put on there is so thin and chips very easy.

Yes, I did mine yesterday. The best way is to remove the door panel and unscrew the trim. I did one of the rear doors first and did it without removing the trim and it came out good but I have to admit, removing the trim makes it easier and there is less risk of damaging the door panel when using the knife. More work but better outcome. I did not bother removing the trim above the glove box, seemed like it would be too involved.

Cool thanks for letting me know the trim will unscrew so I can pop it off from behind the panel...Any ideas for a silver wrap similar to stock and one that will match the center console?

I am not sure, you can look on Amazon for an aluminum look vinyl wrap. I went with brushed black metallic which looks absolutely incredible. I will try to post a pic today.

AARONNL, if you click on that link in my reply above you'll see what I used, it was a brushed/machined steel, but I' going to end up doing it again in the same type as Snaoum did, that black brushed/machined will go well w/ my black interior, and the one I went with first is real close to the OEM look, and I'm ready for a new look

This is the brushed black metallic that I got from Amazon. As you can see, the ashtray cover is not sticking well.

Very cool - I found some brushed aluminum on ebay looks like stock I will try that. I do like your all black look but only want to do the door panels to match the middle silver

as far as the ash try to keep this thread on topic, Did you try heating the wrap and pulling it around the corners?

Here is the aluminum one
3M Scotchprint Brushed Aluminum Wrap Film 18"x24" 3 sq. ft.

maybe that is too light if the brushed steel is a little darker... wonder which will match better
edit: blnewt I saw your post and the steel color is slightly darker I think I will go with the aluminum

Yeah, I got several 3m samples and that aluminum is very similar in shade to the OEM washi trim. FWIW Snaoum's ashtray is different than mine (mine is an 09 sedan) so maybe there's something there that I didn't have to deal with???

I have more wrap on order and so I will try to heat it and pull it around the corners better. Problem is, the bottom of the ashtray is felt so it wont hold. I got to say though, this was my first time dealing with vinyl wrap so I am pleased on the outcome for the most part.
