Buying a 2011 G37s sedan, What to lookout for
Looking to purchase a sedan in the next day or so and need to know what would some potential deal breakers be. Any noises, oil leaks, interior issues, etc. to look out for? Any insight and contributions would be helpful. All i found upon searching were the 2012's had an upgraded gasket. Thats about it. Thanks in advance
If you can expand your budget just a bit I would consider that 2012, that gasket issue can be over $2k to R&R, other than that there's not much to be concerned with as long as you give it a good inspection. Taking it to a trusted mechanic if you're so inclined is always a solid plan before sealing the deal.
G/L w/ your search.

Like blnewt said, if the rear timing cover gasket has been replaced, that's great. Otherwise, consider a 2012 - 2013. If not, the odds are still in your favor. It's only a familiar problem on the forums, and even then.
If the original CSC had already been replaced, that's a plus. Unless the RWD-Sport you're looking for is an automatic, in which case... yawn.
If the diff bushing had already been replaced... also a plus.
That's about it. Pretty solid car.

Check the sun roof drains.
Make sure auto-up works on all the windows from both the individual controls and from the driver door master panel.
Take a peek at the back of the differential looking for dark fluid indicating a ruptured viscous mount.

And there won't be external leaks, it's a paper gasket that seals the oil passage going through the timing case, so it's leaking inside the timing case. Once it gets soaked it can tear & break away, this results in lower & lower oil pressure

By the time your oil pressure warning code comes on it's too late

The newer models have an improved metal-lined gasket that won't tear away.
FWIW, our 09 has 90k miles and solid oil pressure. This issue isn't inevitable but it occurs often enough that it needs to be something to keep in mind when shopping for these cars, and one significant thing not to worry about if you can find a 2012+.

Thanks blnewt. Does anyone have any pictures of this area. Maybe something to lookout for to see if by chance it has already been done?
Ive owned G35's for a while and definitely know the differences between these regular journeys and the S models. I would not buy anything but an S

Definitely go for a 2012+ if you can find a decent deal on it. Most cases of the timing cover on the earlier models usually happen when the car reaches high milage, though I've seen cases where it occurs as early as 70k.
Didn't even know the issue existed until I started surfing through the forums. I hate having that "I'm one pull away from having a hefty repair bill" feeling in the back of your head

Oh hey, that's encouraging. I don't expect I'll ever see 70K miles on this car. Close, maybe. Knock on wood.
