Going from a Mercedes E350 to G37

Hi Everyone.

I stumbled upon this forum and am new here. I am going to be going from driving a Mercedes 2016 E350 4matic to a 2013 G37x.

Has anyone else gone from Mercedes to the G37? I'm just curious what to expect in terms of difference in handling, ride, and performance? Both are V6 and AWD with relatively same curb weight. The Infinity has a little more HP.

The only Mods I plan to do are sway bars and cat-back exhaust. I may also do a cold air intake, but haven't decided yet.

Previous vehicles were 2015 Mercedes C300 4Matic, 2003 Honda Accord Coupe V6MT, 1996 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry its like their there and they're to me

Welcome! If I may, why are you going from a new Benz to an older G?

While I have not had a Mercedes, I am looking at an E63 in the near future, or an e92

Sorry for the typo.

I've been in a program which allows me to do 1 year leases with Mercedes. So the 2016 i'm currently in finishes May 1st. Personally, I believe Mercedes are overpriced with the sticker on my current vehicle being a little over 65k.

For 1/3 of the price I can get into and finance a nice certified pre-owned G37 for aprox 22k.

Welcome to the site, from your past vehicles I think you'll be happy w/ the performance of the G. The interior is somewhat lacking vs. the E for sure, but should have more fun in the G
Glad you found us & let us know how this ends up.

As much as I love my G37, I could never imagine downgrading from a brand-new Benz to a used Infiniti. So much more technology and luxury in the Benz vs. the G, and the ride comfort is crazy different. My mother drives a 2000 E320 and that feels like a tank on the highway. The G is a great car, but if I was coming from a 2016 Benz, I would probably feel a little disappointed.

Yeah I'm curious to see the difference on the road between them. The highway ride of the E350 is pretty amazing where going 80 mph feels more like going 50mph. However, I'm not impressed with the adaptive shift points in the mercedes transmission control unit, even in sport mode. I want something a little sportier at the expense of luxury.

I've heard nothing but great things about the G37. For aprox 22k, I can't see a better value for a certified pre owned vehicle that is in the sport luxury sedan class?

It's definitely a great value for the money, you get a great looking car with some decent luxury features and a powerful engine. It's just not fair to compare it with a brand new Mercedes lol. Anyway, I think you will be happy with your new car

I came from an E Classe to an Infiniti. I had been driving various European cars for about 20 years - Mainly BMW (3, 5, 7) and a Land Rover Disco II, Audi A6 and E320. The euros are much more refined than the Japanese cars. However, if you can deal with a little less refinement then the G will reward you with a very pleasant driving experience if you are into a sportier sedan. Handles well, power is very good. Reliability is good as well. Oil changes are less expensive too. If you are not a Brand Hog, then you will like your G after you get used to it. I know I do. I'll probably get another Euro again, just my preference, but I'm in no hurry. Or I'll hold on to this and pick up an old muscle truck

Hello!
Surprised to hear you are wanting to make this change, I do like Mercedes but I love Infiniti. Granted, I have never owned a Mercedes, but have ridden in one (CLA250) before. You will notice a downgrade in technology, especially the interior. The interior in the G is pretty simplistic, if you like simplistic like I do, then you will be fine. I am not a fan of all of those gadgets also. The exterior of the G says sport luxury to me, and I love the design language. It is just right and is not over done. The stock exhaust note is one of the best I have ever heard on a V6 equipped vehicle. For a standard V6 putting out 328HP, that is pretty darn good. It is an extremely fun car to drive.

A little bit about my G. I purchased a previous 2013 G37x Certified Pre-Owned Leased model through Infiniti for around $22K with only 19,980 miles on it. I bought it October 2016 and now being April 2017, I have 26K miles on it. Prior to my G, I had a Kia Optima SX (2.0 Turbo), Dodge Charger (3.5L V6). The G was a HUGE upgrade for me. I can say that I truly LOVE my G. I likely will never leave the sport luxury market. The performance is great, I love the naturally aspirated engine (VQ37VHR), it holds true to the fuel ratings (even with spirited driving / I do a mix of conservative and spirited). The shifting is nice, the car just wants to be driven and it wants to go. You definitely will feel the shifting when driving. Throw it in DS (Drive Sport: allowing for higher RPMS before each shift, still auto) or auto-manual mode (self shift with paddle or gear selector ****) and you will feel the car even more and more control to you as the driver.

Mod wise, I have done cosmetic work and added a Stillen Gen3 CAI and a Stillen Catback Exhaust. These mods have worked amazing for my car, improved efficiency and unleaded the hidden power that stock holds back. I am not doing anymore performance wise mods, these two are great to start with.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any comments or question! I also attached some pictures and video of the exhaust.

Completely different machines. I would says its primary a downgrade. Upside would be performance, handling and reliability.

The whips

The Infiniti is faster and handles better than the Merc, but has less interior storage space. First thing I'm having done on the Infiniti is window tint, 35% all around.

congrats on the purchase! I have been mainly a Japanese car fan, although I have owned a few Euro's and some American muscle as well. I feel that the G37 is the best compromise between sport and luxury. You get to a point in your life where you no longer need to wake up the neighborhood with your V8 with straight pipes yet don't want to drive a Prius and give up all of the fun of driving. G37 is a perfect mesh of handling and comfort while being faster than 90% of the other sedans on the road.

G's suspension is also softer in my experience and will eat a divot in the road without jarring. Can't speak about the E class but compared to the C-class (2015) is't a more comfortable ride. It's not as "fancy" but the controls are a lot easier to navigate compared to the spin dial. G is hands down more reliable. Can't remember if it's over $10,000 yet in warranty service on the C class but owner has only drove the car 6 months out of the 9 she has had it due to shop time.

Edit: I see you said F-it and got both. Well done.
