Vinyl Wrap

I am in the market to vinyl wrap the god awful chrome trim above my windows (my opinion). I was quoted at $375 for black vinyl wrap...does this seem reasonable? Youtube videos make it seem like it should be a lot less, but then again I am not a professional in this department. So I figured I would come to the place where most people have a lot more experience than I with modifications. Let me know if this is an accurate quote or a rip off.

Thank you,

Mike

Can always do it yourself. bnewt (will probably drop in) has a nice DIY and it's easy to follow. I've never done vinyl in my life and used his post to wrap my grille and rear emblem. Vinyl requires an immense amount of patience; especially for a beginner. Took me about 2-3 tries to do the grille and about the same amount of tries for the emblem. Can also be done at $50 max this way and some time. 3M 1080 wrap is the only stuff I've seen worth using.

okay i've seen that wrap thrown around in other threads. So good to know, but if we can do it (with a few tries) and others have done it without taking the door off, seems like $375 is a rip off because I'm sure majority of DIY'ers don't take their doors off? Would there be a need to take the door off besides purely convenience?

The doors do NOT need to come off. I can't even imagine why anyone would do that just for wrapping the trim.
Do it yourself and it'll only cost like $25-30 with the 3M wrap. Even if you mess up you can just get another roll for cheap. $375 is an absolute complete ripoff.

For just the window trim chrome?!? What a joke! Like the others said, that is unbelievably overpriced.
For reference, I paid a shop that does clear bras and auto stripes do mine. It was less than $40, and they provided the vinyl too.

$375 is a bit much.

The material is $25-30 and it took me (a novice at vinyl) 4 hours to do it.
If you do not have the confidence to tackle it then it may be worth it to you.

Blnewt's DIY is stellar though. Takes all the guess work out of it.
Worst case you waste $30 and a few hours to find out that you should pay someone to do it.

Here you go, just give it a shot, I think you'll do just fine and can take pride in doing it yourself And you can buy a lot of beer with that $350 you'll save!

^ Just wouldn't recommend Beer + Vinyl as a newbie....vinyl can test one's patience and this combo may result in things flying...

Dembflyr and myself could do it - so can you. Just get the right material, think, go slow and remember that vinyl is VERY forgiving. Couple times I thought I screwed up and was able to salvage the whole project because I kept working it. Both my grille and emblem have been holding up for about a month now and have seen snow, rain and salt and are still rock solid.

lol^^^I should have said you can buy beer AFTERWARDS to celebrate

And yeah, get the good stuff, 3m1080 is what I recommend, there are other quality name brand vinyls out there, just avoid the ebay cheap generic, no-name vinyls.

i planned on going on amazon for this, but i appreciate all the help. Waiting to hear back from the place who quoted me their cost breakdown. Probably won't get what I'm looking for but didn't hurt to ask. I will try to DIY once work slows and will post for *hopefully* some praise haha

Because Gatorwraps is a 3000 mile drive for the OP?

I think if a vinyl shop is quoting $375 for this job, it's because they don't want to do it unless you throw a bag of money at them.

I live in the brooklyn area of NYC. It seems to be a common trend to what OP is saying.

I have personally visited shops to see their tools, asked around on IG, and overall researched all over the web. Average pricing in my area is about 275$-400$, every time I scratch my head and say thank you.

Some shops said the grille alone can be 80$-200$, I would assume wrapping the grille takes a lot more time and patience. Especially when you're taking it and the emblem off.
