What are your goals for the car? Power, aesthetics, functionality, handling? I would start with suspension and a set of 19" coupe sport wheels. That will dramatically change the look of the car to be sleeker, while handling better.

Helped me out tremendously; but before even that I'd recommend performance driving schools. I haven't been in about 5 years but it's one of those things that could not only save your car but your life one day. Usually will run you anywhere from 400-550$ but the improvement in your driving skills will shock you and do it once every 5 years or so to keep yourself sharp.
When I first went at 17, found I had a ton of bad habits that, once I focused on breaking, made my driving capabilities much more instinctive and you will be able to push your car much further than you originally thought. I cannot tell you how many times I've not even realized how fast I'm going on some trying back roads until someone points it out to me. Only because you know how far you can push the car before losing control; and it's much further than you think.
I know it's a lot of cash for something you can't physically put onto the car, but when you have a Mitsubishi Eclipse coming up the wrong side of the ramp at you at about 50 MPH and are able to avoid a head on collision you can say thank God you took a class.
