Good trade?

Hey guys, I recently had bought my 08 G37s 6mt that's fully loaded with 55k miles but realized how I really need all wheel drive as it is my only car. I Put that car up for sale and was offered a 2008 G35x sedan with 65k miles, a ton of work done and 3500 cash on top.
Here's the link to his car
2008 g35x **MUST SEE**

I know value-wise its a fair trade. What do you guys think?
If I do end up doing the deal then I'll be looking for stock suspension and wheels and the air ride and 20s will be for sale.

You don't need all-wheel drive, you need snow tires.

Although I do agree with needing snow tires, where I live we have a really steep hill that leads up to where the houses are. My dad was unable to get up it when he had his RWD cadillac and he had blizzaks on it. When I had my wrangler it would sometimes slip when only in RWD and I had excellent all terrain tires on it that were highly rated for snow. That is my only concern for having rear wheel.

When I had my Genesis coupe 2 winters ago I had to plan my routes around whether there were hills or not, because even with my brand new Blizzaks I would have issues getting up them. Heaven forbid I had to stop on a hill. I now have a G37X. Sure you don't NEED awd if you deal with a lot of winter, but it sure makes it easier. I wouldn't trade for that G35 though, although I have a thing against picking up heavily modified cars.

X2 on this. Wouldn't trade for that. Try and get a clean for clean trade on a g37x. The reason I say that is because your car is "well wanted" as it's a 6MT. there is def. Someone out there willing to trade you for your 6mt if they have a 7AT and love the G. And of course know how to drive stick. Plus you will keep all the features like automatic seat moving when you open the door, etc.

Plus I hate heavily modified cars as well. (when buying)

How does RWD vs AWD have any affect on braking in snow?

I don't think braking is the problem, as much as traction is... rwd is harder to maneuver and get up/down hills

It doesn't. His point is that if he stopped while going up a hill, he'd be unable to get going again. At least with AWD and snow tires he'd have a fighting chance.

I honestly think AWD is load of crap foisted on the passenger car market. However, if you have to conquer a heavily snow-covered incline, then AWD is a god-send. For everyone else, just get snow tires and drive smart.

For what it's worth, I feel that my '04 Sedan (X-ICE) outperforms my '13 Sedan (LM-32)... could just be down to the tires but it's night and day.

Needless to say, I have a set of 225/50R18 LM-32's on aftermarket rims that fit BBK going up in the classifieds as we speak. The set-up has 5700km's on it from last winter.... car is a garage queen now

Kinda agree with Rochester on this"I honestly think AWD is load of crap foisted on the passenger car market. However, if you have to conquer a heavily snow-covered incline, then AWD is a god-send. For everyone else, just get snow tires and drive smart."

What do people think we did 30+ years ago when most cars where only 2WD, I never owned a AWD car till 2004( EVO) everything else was FWD or RWD. Just have to be smart about it.

That's encouraging. I just put two new X-Ice snows on my rear wheels, with two old LM-32 snows on my fronts. This will be my fourth (and last) winter with those Bridgestones in the front. Figure to be swapping wheels during the Thanksgiving weekend. Always a project, LOL.

I don't care for the LM-32's... neither a good performance tire, nor a good snow tire. I think Bridgestone's attempt to get the best of both worlds came up woefully short in each.

Thanks for all of the replies guys. I want to check out the car either way because a buddy of mine owns a shop and I can get it on the lift to check everything. I've asked people about trading for a g37x but no one wants to trade, only sell. I could possibly trade it for an 08 FX35 as well. My reasoning for possibly wanting this g35x is the fact that I'm a college student so I drive less than 5k miles a year and the extra cash on top and the money I could make on the air ride and the 20s would be pretty nice to have.
But in response to everyone about RWD and AWD, as I said before, I live on top of a steep hill so RWD, even with the best snow tires, is a problem with snow on the ground. I feel it's a question of safety now since if you slide down the hill you can end up falling off the side into trees at least 10 feet down at all times. AWD allows me to have a better chance of making it up as well as having the longer wheel base.
