HELP! New to Infiniti!!
Hi everyone,
I have never posted on a forum before, but I am desperate for honest answers from the professionals!!
I purchased a used 2013 g37x about a year ago, and when I purchased it the dealer said that it requires regular gas.
Now, this is definitely my own fault for not doing my own research, but I just realized that my car actually does require premium gas and I am freaking out about how to "fix" this...
I reached out to friends who said they all use regular gas in their Infiniti, but I do not want to damage my engine...where do I go from here?
I was given advice to start using premium gas after my current tank of regular gas is out of the system completely. ...I was also told that my engine is now "used to" regular gas and that I should continue with regular. I admittedly do not know anything about cars so I do not know what advice is the most reasonable. I do not mind paying the extra money for premium, that was never the case. I never owned a car that required premium before and I am new to having a "luxury" car.
Can someone please tell me how to remedy this? Would I be doing any damage by switching form regular to premium?
Any advice at all would be appreciated! Thank you!!

No damage has been done to your car. Premium fuel is only necessary in cars that specifically require it. It is of no benefit in cars that don't call for it. This is one of those cars that does.
No need to do anything. Just use premium fuel from now on as the manufacturer intended.

Wow! Thank you everyone! I am so glad that I found this forum. I appreciate the quick advice-- it is helping to put my mind at ease. I LOVE my car and would hate to have damaged it... not to mention I want to keep it for a long time.
I just want to make sure that I am understanding fully-- I likely have not done damage if I have been using the wrong gas (or if the previous owner has), but I should definitely start using the recommended premium gas from this point forward to ensure that my car is getting the best "care" ...and there is no risk in switching from regular to premium. If so, then problem solved.

Welcome to the site! Glad you're calm now, lol. Might consider switching to full synthetic oil if you're currently running regular dino, but that's just my 2cents. Enjoy your new G and keep on posting, we'll keep you from going too crazy
Regular gas won't kill your engine, but you will experience some loss in power and efficiency. Extended use of regular gas in high performance engines may cause engine knock/pinging. I think everyone has already given you some reassurance but there is also some good info here: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/premiu...y-vehicles.htm

New owner here, but no stranger to performance vehicles. I've always wondered what to do about "premium" gas in certain states. Many times the options are 87/89/93 at most gas stations. 93 is obviously overkill, but is 89 just a bit too low?
Telcoman runs 87-AKI gas in his G37 on a regular basis. He also tears the tags off his mattress and runs with scissors in his hand.
All kidding aside, the knock sensor pulls timing if it hears knock, so likely no damage was done. Personally, I'd run gas with an anti-knock index of at least 91, which is what the manufacturer specifies.
Now, can we move on to less controversial topics, such as what oil to use and how often to change it?

I'd rather go overkill than underkill (if that's even a word XD). That's how it is in my area; lots of 87/89/93, you probably find 91 like every 10 miles or something. I have about 5-7 gas stations within a 5 mile radius near where I live and not a single one of them have 91. I just go with 93 because it's just less of a hassle to go around and search for 91.

Go with 93, it's insignificantly higher than 91 and better than using a lower grade. If you were to use 100 octane or race gas, you would obviously be over killing it. Your car isn't tuned to use that and it has no benefit.
Don't worry. I have used the cheapest gas I was able to find when I got my 2003 G35 years ago, and I am pushing 255,000 miles right now as a daily driver to work , still.
Absolutely not problems with the engine. But I do put 93 octane in my G37...

BTW made me laugh out loud, thanx, day has been HELL so this was nice
It's been said, that there's nothing really wrong with running 89 other than you car will not perform the way is was intended and your gas mileage will suffer than if you used 93.
Me personally only use 93( Shell) and every 2 week a get a 2 gallons of cam2.
