Should I buy a used G37xS???

Hello All,

This is my first post on the forums.

I'm currently in the market for a new car, and I love the looks of the g37X. I found a certified pre owned used 2013 g37XS at a local Infiniti dealership for $26,400. It only has 14,992 miles on it. Feel like it's a pretty good deal. I was wondering what everyone else thinks? Is this a good purchase, and does the price seem right to you? Also, is this vehicle pretty reliable with respect to how many miles are on this used vehicle? What do you all think?

Also, I am in between this used g37XS or a brand new 2016 Nissan Maxima. If anyone has any opinions on what I should do between these two that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time!

G37 will have all wheel drive and more power. Interiors are pretty comparable although Maxima will have a few more electronic toys being a brand new model and all. Both have reliable VQ engines that can last into 400k but the one in Infiniti makes more power. Both are good cars although I personally hate front wheel drive and continuously horrible transmissions so I would not pick Maxima for those two reasons, plus new Maxima would cost nearly double of what used G costs.

Thanks for the quick reply... I agree with what you are saying with the comparison, and the Maxima will be almost $15K more than the G. What do you think about the deal I'm getting for the used G with about 15,000 miles on it. Does that seem to be a solid price with respect to how many miles are on it? Will the G be a reliable whip with only 15,000 miles on it?

The G37 will be reliable and a better option due to the fact that the G37 has a more powerful engine and also a 7 speed automatic instead of a horrible cvt transmission. The price is not bad but I would look into kbb to see what is a fair price for the mileage and also check the carfax but 15k miles is basically a brand new spanking car! I would say due to the fact that they are no longer making the G's they will start depreciating more than they are due to the new Q50. Try to negotiate and get a good deal out the door. The car will under warranty but usually these cars don't have much issues as long as they are maintained

$15k is a hefty price bump for a car in a "lower class." I'd say get a lightly used G37! Since it's a 2013, it has the updated rear timing gasket, so it'll be reliable at 15k or 150k.

As for this particular deal, 7AT's are dropping in price, especially models that have a few more miles (30~50k). I'd say $27k is a bit on the high side, given that the new Q50 RS400 is already being sold. There are 2 easy ways to save a ton of money on this transaction:
1. Find another car with a bit higher mileage, you'll see it going for around $20k.
2. Wait another month or 2, and values will take a hit from new car deliveries.

Ok sounds good thanks for the info. I'll check out KellyBlueBook to see if i'm getting a fair deal, and also i'll try to talk them down out the door. Any good negotiating tactics? HAHA

Thanks for this info. Maybe i'll see where pricing is at in a month or two when the value goes down due to the new car deliveries. Also, there were a couple other options with higher mileage which i'll look into. Thanks!

If you're willing to lose the sport seats and sport package, you can basically save some money (and find an even lower mileage car) getting a non-sport G37x which is mechanical the same.

Contrary to the RWD models, the AWD sport model is primarily an appearance package.

I bought my 2011 G37 Sedan journey with 25k miles and one owner for 22k final price last year! I wouldn't pay for than 25k for this car just because it already out dated with the q50 models that came out after and now the 3.0tt. I'm sure you can find a decent deal out there. Also finance with a credit union for a lower interest rate and make sure your firm at dealers and learn to negotiate and say no. Don't be scared to walk away most of the time they will call u back

Sport package is some of the most amazing bang for the $ you can find, especially on a non AWD model. But even on xS, you are basically getting better wheels, paddle shifters, nicer seats, nicer looking bumpers and a few other things I'm forgetting for just a couple of dollars.

Everyone has their own automotive values, so understand that people in a car forum will heavily weigh their own values against your situation. With that in mind, my recommendation for anyone cross-shopping the G37 and the Nissan Maxima as equally valid choices... is to purchase the Maxima.

In keeping with that perspective, the only argument otherwise would be AWD and/or dollars spent.

Good point...There are some other non sport models that have great prices i'll definitely consider.

Yeah i respect your opinion...I live in Pittsburgh, and with the weather an AWD may be the way to go. Not having awd may be a pain for me. Still weighing this in.

If AWD is a convincing argument... (and personally, I don't think it is. Just get a proper set of snow tires.) However, if AWD is what compels you to give stronger consideration to the Infiniti, then absolutely the G37xS would be a fantastic choice. The sport-appearance options and premium package features make the xS an upscale, stylish sedan, with more than enough power. It's a very appealing and rewarding experience.

As for cost... meh. Research that on your own through AutoTrader, Cars.com, Edmunds, NSDA, KBB, etc. Whatever response you get here will be anecdotal and usually just the forum member expressing validation for a decision already made.

g'luck
