Is it just me? Or does the VQ35 sound better

Not sure if it just me owning two 350z being one DE and HR sounds better than my G37x Sedan. I've seen 370z with full on exhaust kits and they sound a bit higher pitch than the vq35 deeper and growling sound.

Even muffler deletes g35 sedan vs g37 sedan. The G35 sounds much better
is this because of VVEL?

They both have that unique vq sound, but for some reason the vq35 just sounds a tad more sportier and racey IMO.

A better comparison will be a g35 stock exhaust vs g37 stock exhaust.
The g35 stock sounds much better, just notice when the g35 drops in rpm. It has that beautiful prrrrrrrr sound lol idk

It could be due to different exhaust systems in both...muffler/ypipe/mids etc. more or less restriction....?

regarding the video comparison above, the G35 sounds like it has an intake (RAM or CAI) added to it.

Oh I hear the difference between them. I don't really discern either as being better to my ears. Which of course is completely subjective.

Having owned a VQ35 myself, I feel like you're right in that it had a deeper tone. Another member here recently modded his exhaust, and I think his example shows one good reason why. PhoQ did something I've never seen on a V36 before and went with a single exit exhaust, and sure enough it sounds much different. It sounds awesome too!!!

I certainly don't know enough about exhausts to say definitively how or why a single exit exhaust will sound a certain way compared to a dual exit exhaust, but it makes sense to me that it would have some effect for sure as it completely changes the airflow and therefore the note. I'm positive there are other factors too, but again i wouldn't know enough to say. On pg 3 of his build thread Mkhlmnn links a clip of PhoQ's exhaust note, check it out. (3rd post down) Link: https://www.myg37.com/forums/build-t...-thread-3.html

I personally like the aesthetic appeal of a symmetrical rear end with two exhaust tips and cutouts, and wouldn't trade that for a better sounding exhaust note at the sacrifice of that symmetry. But to each his own

Definitely even the fx35 sounds better! Well I must say its more noticeable louder at stock. I think the sedans are really quiet until you add a exhaust to it

I've owned both- and for me stock vs stock the 35 sounded "better" It seemed to have a richer/more crisp/ deeper tone to it.
Now that I have the sport muffler and resonated MD-XYZ-pipe on the G37- it is still different but hard to determine which I like better.

Yes, 3.5 is better. Don't know why. Maybe they cared more about getting more power and didn't care as much about the sound for 3.7.

I think the DE engine sounds great however, I don't think my VQ35HR sound much different than any other sedan with the 37HR (coupes are a whole different topic). Exhaust setup helps tremendously imo. I have heard many say the upper RPM interior sound is where the difference sounds better but I don't have enough experience with the 3.7s modified to talk about that. BTW I have FI non-resonated cats with custom true duals with a resonated x pipe to dual magnaflow mufflers for my car.

two examples of great sounding VQ37HR exhausts:

Yes I have always agreed with the FX35 then I realized they have the same setup as the coupes which makes sense why they sound better

I can only comment from my sedan experience (having owned an M35 and now a G37), the VQDE exhaust in a stock sedan sounded good at start up and idle. The 5AT in the VQDE also ran cruising rpm's in the 2600-3000 range (approx) so you would hear the 'sportier' tone during 70-80mph...but mpg's suffered LOL.

At the time of my G37 being stock, despite the cold start-up 'diesel' sound, the exhaust tone was good and while at WOT, the exhaust tone sounded sporty.

As I've mentioned earlier, the different stock exhaust tubing made a slight difference as well IMO. The VQDE ypipes were more of a 'Y' shape whereas the VHR ypipe is the 'U' or 'V' shape. Better flow IMO. I also think that the VQDE tubing was slightly larger at the ypipe and mids...

Overall, Infiniti made the sedans to be sporty in drivability while keeping a "quiet" luxury ride inside the cabin. The coupes were given the sporty sound and drivability that we all know and appreciate. Thank you to all the aftermarket exhaust companies to help make us sedan owners love our cars even more

I'm just the opposite. I really don't like the sound of the VQ35. It sounds like some sick, high pitched, raspy tin can. I wouldn't even look at the G35 because it sounded so bad. It sounds like something a Honda Civic SI owner would like.
