Alarm issues. engine immobilizer?

Friday I heard my car alarm start going off for no reason (keys weren't on me). When i got in the car to go to work, the engine cranked but wouldnt start like the engine wasn't getting fuel. I pressed the start buttion twice more with the same result. I shut the car off and tried again and it started and there was a CEL. I just drove directly to the dealership because the car is under warranty.

I assume that some sort of fault with the antitheft system is the culprit and wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas or similar experiences

As i thought, low battery caused a fault with the antitheft system and tripped the engine immobilizer. Battery replaced under warranty.

battery

Had a similar situation. Got into the car and had my radio playing for about 5 minutes or so. then I tried to turn the car off but it didn't turn off. I did not notice, exited the car and tried to use my fobs to lock the car. Only at this did I notice that something was wrong. The car did not make any beeps.

At this point nothing worked. The fobs didn't lock or unlock car. I couldn't start the car. The doors locks wouldn't work.

Funny thing is that the radio still played music, and I couldn't turn it off.

BTW, the car did not want to start either....

Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes did the trick.

BTW, there is actually a software glitch on some of our cars for this that requires a software upgrade on the BCM. But I have noticed that the most dealers don't even know about this.

Check your VIN and see if you need an upgrade too. Otherwise this may happen to you again even with a brand new battery.

The ITB which applies is ITB12-024.
