I'm thinking of going with the Topspeed y-back exhaust, but it's out of stock on their website with no way to order. Does anybody know the deal?

They just recently released a new axle-back for the M37 and it makes me wonder if they are replacing the y-back with an axle-back for the G Sedan or something like that. Or maybe they just only take orders for stock-on-hand? The only option on their website at the moment is to add it to a wishlist and there's no accompanying information.

I'll also make sure i post on here when i do hear something, in case anyone else is interested.
Just got an update from the shop i bought the Motordyne through. The projected date of completion is SEPTEMBER 29TH. I think if i don't get it by then, i might suck it up and go with ARK.

Be patient and wait, it's worth it.

So I done goofed with my exhaust. I tried to go the cheap route by having a local custom exhaust shop "remove any rasp and deepen the exhaust note, while keeping it around stock noise levels". They made it a true dual w/ x-pipe, replaced the resonators with what looks to be smaller ones (not incredibly mechanically inclined so forgive me), and replaced the stock mufflers with turbo mufflers.

It sounds like ****. Picked it up yesterday at closing and called them first thing this morning. Can't even stand to get on it because the rasp is so bad. At idle it sounds alright, but once you give it some revs it all goes to hell.

I'm having them install a Magnaflow resonated x-pipe tomorrow to see if that cuts down on rasp, but that's more just a shot in the dark. I honestly don't know what to tell them to make it sound right and I should've just went to my local Z shop and had it done right in the first place. Will running a true dual with Magnaflow resonated x-pipe, stock resonators, and stock mufflers (will request that they put the stock ones back on) sound like **** also?

Any insight or recommendations are much appreciated.

If possible, can you have them pair the stock mufflers back to your setup right now? Start with the cheapest option and work your way from there. I don't know about you but I don't like throwing money in the dark without knowing a possible outcome.

The non-resonated X pipe with stock resonators/stock mufflers/stock cats should not be raspy. But, I have no idea how they mocked up the exhaust and if they kept your OEM flanges intact. The turbo mufflers are essentially a resonator without much glass packing.

At some point they had the stock mufflers paired with the setup, but ended up replacing those because of rasp. Before that they had the stock resonators and mufflers paired with the setup and it was raspy as well.

They've tried multiple things to get rid of rasp, even removed my heat shield, so the only options I can think of are: resonated x pipe, resonated x pipe with stock resonators and/or mufflers, or just have them return everything to stock.

Got an appointment with them tomorrow to try these options out but I have a funny feeling they won't be able to do much and I'll be returning it to stock. If that's the case I'll just have my local z shop install a nice axel back when I get new tires here soon.

Kickin myself for not doing more research with this. $300 dollar mistake so far.

I'd honestly stop, and try and salvage the parts you have on craigslist/eBay. Start with an aftermarket cat-back/axle-back that you 100% know what it will sound like. It will cost more, definitely, but there are some budget setups out there that sound great.

They ordered the resonated x pipe already but I'm sure they can return it to their supplier - hope they don't try to stick me with it. If they return the exhaust to stock, will the extra welds in the exhaust mess with the sound?

I think the extra welds will be the least of your worries.

1. What did you want out of this?

2. Which of your original parts can you salvage?

3. How much is the resonated x pipe? And what brand?

You only have 2 options to proceed with.

A. Eat your losses and just go back to stock. How much will that cost btw?

B. Continue to fix and mod. But none of us here know what they did to frankenstein your exhaust. So it's hard for anyone here to diagnose why you have rasp. It's all guesswork on our part.

I find it kind of weird they took out your stock exhaust because that caused rasp. Of all things, that's not really high on my list of suspects. But what do I know, I'm no pro.

1. I wanted to eliminate the rasp and deepen the tone without increasing noise much. I figured instead of dishing out money for a proper setup I would see if a local custom shop could do it for cheaper, so I gave them those requirements and let them have at it.

2. They said they had the resonators and mufflers still and will have to "dig them out the bin." Hope they remember to.

3. It's a Magnaflow resonated x pipe and they quoted me $160 installed.

A . It will be around $150 to return everything to stock, and that's the dilemma I run into. It's about the same price to go ahead with the resonated x pipe as it is returning the exhaust to stock.

B. The shop told me they turned it into a true dual, which from what I understand is they basically removed the y pipe and replaced it with a non-resonated x pipe. They then replaced the resonators with smaller ones and replaced the mufflers with turbo mufflers. The exhaust was completely stock before all of this. You can kind of see what's going on underneath at the beginning of the video. Hope that helps. I'm not too mechanically inclined so I'm sure I'm leaving out some important details.

I don't know if trying out the magnaflow resonated x pipe will help the rasp, but in the near future, I'd like to get a nice axel back. I'm wondering if the resonated x pipe will compliment that nicely.

Which brings up another question. The tanabe axel back sounds the nicest IMO, but I really don't like how big it is. I want to retain the stock look as much as possible. What alternatives sound similar but have more subdued looks?

The resonated X pipe will reduce the rasp some but not completely.
Should deepen the sound some too.

Looks like they replaced your resonators with some little turbo mufflers.
If they were 2 chamber race mufflers they would sound more like this.

That sounds a lot better than mine. I just dropped the G off at the shop and let them know I wasn't counting on this resonated x-pipe to improve much. He said he wants to try it and if it doesn't sound good he'll return it to as close to stock as possible without upcharging me.

I asked him if he retrieved the stock resonators and mufflers out of the trash and he said he was able to get the mufflers but someone had took the resonators (metal scrappers I assume).

So now I await anxiously for their call, I'll report back after.

What diameter piping are you running? All in all it doesn't look horrible under there. You need to change the sound. The Magnaflow resonated X or a 2 chamber will do that. Stock mufflers will quiet the system a bit I'd Imaging but the Magnaflow resonated X is a step in the right direction.

If you're still not happy, I'd take the turbo mufflers (if that's what they are) out and replace with a 2 chamber system:
