My first fender bender

I was heading to the bank 10 min after shoveling the snow, I was at the stop light waiting for the light to turned green, I started to drive but halfway I had to stop to let the shoveling truck do their thing and bang I got hit from the back by a 2002 Honda civic.

The driver and her friend got out of her car and said it's your fault lol, you were not driving fast, her friend started to speak Chinese which I didn't understand, she then said your car is fine, you are fine, that's when I said hey, you hit me pretty hard cuz I could feel the whiplash and I still have to get the scratch repaired it's an infiniti lol, she replied are you leasing this car and I said yes haha.

You can see the damage to her Honda compared to mine. I think it may be time for a dash cam.

Bummer to get dinged up but looks like a pretty easy fix, hopefully it won't be much of a hassle for you. G/L

Assuming it's damaged the plastic of the bumper and not just the paint I'd guess $1300.

To the OP, I do believe you're entitled to take off from a green light as fast or slow as you see fit. If you're going too slow for the driver behind you, they can pass when it is safe to do so.

Was a police report made?

Really, to get rear ended while taking off from a light is asinine. The driver that hit you should have its license revoked.

I already have a front facing cam, maybe time to get a rear one too just in case.

State farm called me today and suggested that I take my car for an estimate at a ford and mazda collision center, I went to the Ford collision center and their estimate was $543 for the paint and labor but it may be going up because they dont know the amount of damage that was done behind the bumper.

So I took it to the infiniti instead and they looked at the bumper and said that one corner of the trunk was tighter then the other side, the bumper was dented on couple of spot, he did say that his more worry about whats behind the bumper and the shock absorber because he had seen crack even when ppl were driving slow.

Police report was not made because it was under $1000 state farm said they will let me know if I have to make one.
I'm looking at blackvue camera right now it has 2 channel, 1 camera in the front and one in the back all because that lady was trying to pull that stunt on me, better safe than sorry.

State farm did say they will wave my deductible, I just have to bring it to the garage and a rental will be waiting for me at a rental company.

Nice to hear that it wasn't too bad, amazing that just a little mishap costs $1k but in this day & age that isn't much.
G/L w/ the repair & paint.

glad to hear it's all being taken care of. frustrating to have to spend time and effort on other's stupidity. but that's the deal these days.

for reference, my passenger side view mirror was recently clipped off by a woman driving her 2010 Honda Civic down the bike lane - in between traffic and parked cars. of course her car did not quite fit, hence my mirror being knocked off while i was stopped at a red light.

the bill came to $1500 for a new mirror and paint work to repair related scratches on the door. i will be returning for the second time for the shop to correct mistakes of their workmanship. the work was done at a Nissan/Infiniti dealer-owned body shop.

so now i will be taking time out of my schedule for a 3rd time (original repair + 2 follow-ups). and my 'collision-free' car is no longer truly collision free. these two reasons, plus the moronic collision, is why i had to blister the driver for her actions. fortunately she accepted fault immediately. there's no way to get compensated for time and 'piece-of-mind' depreciation for something like this. we just have to suck it up, i suppose. awesome. and the kicker is that everyone's insurance premiums take a hit regardless if someone was breaking a law which led to a collision, being an utter moron, or if truly was an 'accident'.

I totally agree with you, my Insurance will go up for nothing, My wife benefits will have to pay some of the cost for the physio.
But I have to say, I'm happy to get the new bumper just because I do not have to remove or deal with that plasti dip that I once put on the lower bumper lol.
Someone else did it for me. Look at her beautiful backside now.
