I guess I could agree with you guys on resale value being a non-issue, especially since the 2013 G37S I picked up was only low 30s brand new/loaded. The Q50 actually helped resale because it cost quite a bit more at the time and there were no deals to be found on it. I suspect there will be price increases, and reductions with the new model, depending on the powertrain/options you select. The 3.0 liter direct injected twin turbo sounds like a 335i with an aftermarket tune (there is obviously tradeoffs associated with pushing the turbo this hard). Bimmer is definitely the target in this segment, so the small displacement, more fuel efficient (but traditionally less reliable) approach is warranted. The current VQ37 is a tank and should continue to hold up well within consumers report, which is what most people (outside of car enthusiast types) use to judge reliability and resale. The Q50 has already taken quite a hit from a reliability perspective because of the DAS nightmares, so we will see.

I was wondering about the Z as well....

I've owned mine since new and i'm keeping it till it dies lol, so i don't even care about resale value.

Kinda wanna go drive that new Q50 once it comes out. Was not impressed with the current one.

Me too, on all four points. Well, new-ish. It only had 3900 miles on it and less than a year old. But still, I could have written your comment.

I test drove the Q50S when it came out, and although it was a fine sedan, I was much happier getting back behind the wheel of my 6MT. Perhaps a tighter suspension and 400hp will make all the difference.

And then there's price. Any guesses? I suspect the top-of-line Q50S will start at $50k. That a lot of money for a Sport Sedan when you have to compromise on a slushbox.

^ there's the rub. i've been closely following the mid-cycle-refresh news for the Q50, eager to learn of new powertrain options. the engines sound promising - perhaps even in 300hp/300tq form, as do some of the other dynamic refinements. i will definitely give them a try, but i will be hard pressed to look past the slushbox-only setup. we'll see, but with my preferences for manual shifting, and all the whining by the 7AT owners on the forum, i may have no choice but to look elsewhere when i eventually look for a replacement to my '09 6MT.

in Canada, i suspect the S sedan models to come in at the mid-$50k range. inline with the 335/S4 (not heavily optioned).

B9 S4 will discontinue the 6MT as well, almost makes me want to scoop up a B8.5 6MT while I can get a low-mileage CPO one.

Almost

It would be overly convenient if I got over the whole 6MT thing, maybe I should try test-driving a DCT

Some years ago, I test drove two Volkswagon CC sedans back to back. Both were 2.0T engines, one was a 6MT, and the other was a DCT. I swear I liked the DCT better.

But that was a completely different kind of car... less power, FWD, and a truly whimpy clutch & shifter. Still, the DCT was better.
