Hello everyone, my 08 G35 motor just hit 100K and I want to upgrade the motor to a G37 VQ37HR motor since it has more HP and more aftermarket support than the VQ35HR does. Since the body pretty much the same I wanted to know if a G37 motor swap is simple swap and what do I need to change to make it work like motor came with the car.

I already did 2010 G37 front end conversion and was thinking why not do the motor too.

Why not just sell your 08 and get a newer one? Less headaches, no parts sourcing, no down time. Btw the extra hp is hardly noticeable.

that's a huge waste of money and time. Just trade the car in for a 2010 plus. The car does not feel any faster than a g35.

I know what you mean, but trade in value to trade up is not worth it if i need to come out of pocket and make payments.

My 08 G35 sedan will be paid off in the beginning of the 2016..that means no car payments and I can use that money for other things like parts.

I want to keep this car for a few more years and just add parts that I want, I feel if I sold it and jump to another car payment i will have to wait to modify it. Right now I've done the 2010 G37 sport front bumper conversion, 2010 OEM custom headlights. I just want a lower mile engine since I'm keeping it for a few more years and thought a low mile motor will do the trick. The price for another 08 G35 motor is the same price as a 09+ G37 motor.

If you really want to go through it, here are some things that might concern you... the engine might be relatively cheap but labor isn't (unless you can diy) so get a quote first. Also not sure how the 7at vs 5at will bolt up and the computer work behind it.

spend the money and get a Stillen blower. Probably end up spending a little more but you will gain noticeable power.

No way at all is it worth it unless you can get the engine dirt cheap and swap it yourself. And even then all that work for what, 30hp? Definitely better selling and buying a G37. Or like MaQ says, just supercharge it and get way more performance for way less headache.

Why not just turbo or supercharge your g35 since it'll be paid off soon? It sould be cheaper than swapping the G37 engine and trans. You'll definitely destroy all na g37's lol.

100K is not really that much for these cars. Head over to the G35 forums and many of those users are well beyond 100K miles. I agree with the others that it makes more sense to just sell the car and buy a gently used G37 if you really want all the improvements made to the 3rd Gen (they extend beyond just the drive train).

Read this build thread. The guy paid off his G and wanted to make it special. He spent tons of money but ended up with a car that can run with GTRs. Even if you don't go this extreme, a supercharger kit suspension, wheels and brakes will really transform the car.

The VQ37VHR swap would involve a whole new engine, harness and ECU at least. You would probably need an 09 ECU since it shares a lot of the 07-08 components with the VQ35HR setup. You can source a mostly complete motor for around $2500 with all accessories needed. Maybe even get lucky and find one with an intact harness and ECU. Then there's labor unless you're planning on doing it yourself. That will easily be a grand or more depending on the quality of the shop you have perform the swap. After all is said and done you gain 24hp.

Just to add to other comments: swapping a VQ35HR for a VQ37VHR will be an impossible task. Infiniti has upgraded the number of inputs and sensors for each new model that, beyond the cost of a new engine, harness and ECM, it will still not interact properly with your older G systems. Both BCM and ABS computers will likely not be recognized by the newer ECM and display a CEL every time you start up. It's a near impossible task that most consumers do not understand.

3.7 with VVEL costs a little more to maintain in oil difference. With the 3.5 HR you just use Full synthetic, but with 3.7 must use Ester based oils which cost more. I used to pay $50 now i pay like 80-90 for Redline with Ester blend.

Why not just rebuild the 3.5 and add performance parts, Cams, head porting ECT, Less than swapping a motor that you know ZERO about. :/ ,. I might do this to mine( 3.7) in two years .
