Do you turn off your A/C before shutting off the car?

Okay I've was always trained by my dad when I was younger to always turn off my air conditioning before turning off my car. That way it's easier on your starter when starting the car back up. I also usually turn it off about a block before getting home because I don't want that musty smell from the moisture left in the vent. I have left it on a few times before starting it up. Once I turn the car on it seems to take a few seconds for the A/C light to go on.Is there a set timer that turns it on a few seconds after you start the car?

I used to get that musty smell when the car was newer, not so much now, even if ac isn't turned off few blocks from shutdown.

You can't turn the ac on immediately after starting the car by design.

I could be wrong, but it is my understanding that for many years now cars will cut power to anything that is not needed when starting the car.

When one turns the key in the ignition everything else not need is cut off for the duration of the start including the AC.

I have never turned it off since I got a 2003 G35, and don't do it on the G37 either.

That would be cool if power automatically turn off power.

I've always done it just so I don't get blasted in the face with stale hot air when I turn my car on.

Exactly. Windows up, entertainment off, AC off, power off.

And if I pull nose-end into the garage, then I leave it in Reverse. Similarly, if I back into the garage, I leave it in 1st.

Mine slowly ramps up the blower so you don't get blasted. I thought this was a feature in our cars. Does yours not have it?

You are correct!

The AC is not immediately on at startup so why bother turning it off?

After a few second delay it starts.

In the winter the fan also has a temp delay. Just set whatever temp is comfortable for you and leave it alone.

I always shut it off when parking and turning off the car. I also turn the stereo all the way down.

I do this so I can listen to the car for a few seconds before I shut the car off. To make sure everything sounds good and smooth. No taps, clicks, squeaks or squeals.

I do the same when I start the vehicle. Let a run for a few seconds before turning everything on. Make sure everything sounds good and is running smooth.

Then, it's off to the races.

I always turn the a/c off, and leave the fan on, for about three or four minutes to "dry the pipes" before I get where I'm going - that way there's no musty odor later.

If i remember i always turn the ac off and let fan run for a few minutes. I hate when i forget to turn it off and i start my car i can hear the compressor. seems like added stress while starting.

I have automatic climate control (tech package), so I just leave it on "Auto" all the time -- I never turn it off.
