Question Cabin noise and eliminating it.

I want my cabin to be as quiet as possible. Whats the most cost effective/quality product in everyone's opinion to use to dampen sound from the exhaust and a set of high flow cats? Where should the material be exactly placed in/on the car to get the most out of installing it for my purposes?

Appreciate any input.

Mezzo,

With that set-up I think the the best place to put the material is in your ear canals.

Seriously, the G is pretty loaded up with sound deadening material to give it that 'luxury' experience.

You might try some of that heat-shielding material attached to the bottom of the car above the exhaust. There's a site called heatshieldmat.com you can check out. It might point you in the right direction.

Dynamatting your interior rear wheel wells, the trunk, your doors, and underneath your entire carpet will seal your car the most.

dynamat or anything similar will only dampen vibrations and not block sound. it will make your cabin quieter but to truly block sound you'll need a different type of product.

Take a look at a GT-Haus exhaust. I was pretty impressed with Kirk's when he had it. Wasn't overly loud under normal load, slight burble but definitely quieter than my FI exhaust until he hammered down on it. Then it hurt my ears.

I'm running FI RHFCs and a 12 inch resonated exhaust. I moderate the exhaust noise by turning up the radio...

I had good success quieting my M (I was running BERK HFC's, Motordyne xyz, Megan mids & axle backs) - I lined the rear floor boards, spare wheel well and the rest of the trunk space with sound deadening material - I used Second Skin products (their Luxury liner and Damplifier pro) - retail is pretty pricey, but worth it. The cabin noise later compared closely to my prior 07 MB E class - which was very quiet.

So im ready to purchase from second skin but not sure on sq footage to purchase.

Im purchasing the Damplifier Pro and Luxury Liner Pro - about 36 sq feet of each.

I want to cover my trunk area and rear floor seat area.

Overkill?

I had that same combo in my maxima, and it was a long process and adds some weight. You will also be doing a lot of cutting and gluing with the Luxury Liner Pro. I ended up needing more than 36 sq feet of the damplifer Pro

For me my results where minimal as the vibration/road noise i heard did go down in volume but it was still there but in a lower frequency. The most benefit i had was damping the doors well. I also did my whole car except the firewall and headliner. I wish you luck but from my experience doing the trunk lid so it does not rattle and the doors is your best bank for the buck as there is already sound deadner on the floor boards.

Any update, mezzo? I'm curious what recipe CPJ LB gave you, what you tried, and what the results were.

It's far cheaper and easier to just put your stock exhaust back. When you tear up your interior so you can install sound deadener, you will end up with squeaks and rattles instead of exhaust sound...

When first getting my G. I noticed that cabin noise were one of the cons listed on many sites. So when I first purchased it, dampening the doors and wheel wells were the first things I did to it. I must say the sound and road (especially when hitting a bump) was dampened to more of what I thought it should have been stock. The biggest difference was dampening the doors. The sound from the system is more crisp and gives you more of the clarity you experience when listening to your music at a standstill as opposed to driving. Having a Q70 loaner for 2 days confirmed how loud the G's cabin is. To get it to Q70 quietness would be major work but doing simple sound deadening of all the traditional spots would make you smile. Worth doing it
