To Early To Start Adding Mods?

I recently picked up my G about 2.5 months ago. I bought a used 2011 AWD sedan. When I bought the car it had 6,618 miles on it and now the car 7,700 miles. I've heard that a car isn't really broken in until 18-25k miles on it. I want to buy Tanabe Exhaust and maybe the mid pipe. which adds about 3-6 horsepower. I don't want to start harassing my car if it isn't ready. What do you guys think?

I think you picked up a car with incredibly, almost ridiculously, low miles on it. That's quite a find. Good for you.

I also think your concerns about breaking it in are over-thought. The whole "break-in period" thing is predominately in the past. Your car has 7700 miles on it... it's broken in. Here, this seems like a good read:

Lastly, I think expecting any HP gains from that axle-back are optimistic. Pretty looking parts, though.

Welcome to the forum, OP. It's never too early to think about mods. Heck, a lot of us start thinking about them long before actually buying the car.

Yep.

Took me about 9 weeks. Got a front lip on the way, Eibach springs, F1 Pinnacle tint and choosing wheels and tires as we speak.

You can see from my signature I have similar numbers as you.

WOW!! KillingforPeace (F-in great name btw) and VIVID, you two gentleman found great rides with absurdly low mileage. Congrats on the finds. I thought I was doing well when I found a 12 vert with 10,500 miles. Welcome to the site guys! If you locate mods like you locate barely broken in rides you'll both be up there at the top of the heap in short order.

John that was a decent read as you suggested it would be. If you two new members don't know it yet, don't sleep on Rochester's suggestions or comments. He's either always right or never wrong. So take his advice.

My name is Reddi and like so many other members...I'm here to help. Check my signature, if you have any questions about mods that I currently have don't hesitate to ask or just pm me. Welcome welcome both of you. I look forward to helping you spend thousands of dollars on your rides!! lol

It's never too early to start modding. I did mine after 3 months of driving around stock. The Tanabe exhaust definitely won't make the power difference you're expecting.

I would suggest going with a full cat back exhaust. I personally did the ARK exhaust system. A lot louder than stock but not to the point of being obnoxiously loud. Another option I like is the GTHAUS Meisterschaft which is probably the best sounding of all available options but is insanely loud (Friend of mine has one and I could hear him roaring from at least 3 blocks away).

ARK GRIP cost me about 1300 during their sale in June.
Meisterschaft will set you back at least 3k I think.

But the axle-back looks good. There's no denying it's an attractive can & tip configuration. And there's value in that.

There are better looking exhausts, but not as a simple, bolt-on axle-back that anyone can DIY.

Great info. I was surprised that the break-in period was mitigated by oil and other lubricants rather than the mechanics of newer engine technology. But really it was a testament to synthetic oil. Use it and stay with it...if your manufacturer recommends it.

ARK was on of my first choices and then i moved to stillen and then after that i seen tanabe. How you like your ark? does it add any gains to the car? I'm just looking for something that sound different than stock.

I think most any of them will provide a different sound than stock. Most of your options will give a little of a hp and torque gain as well.
