Q50 loaner
The Q50 also drives like crap, steering sucks, handling sucks and to top it all off you can't hear the engine bay roaring when you rip it. I'm glad i didn't wait for the Q50 and bought the G37 instead.
Pearl White ($400 extra) moonroof package, navigation plus package (premium Bose audio, navigation, DVD video, voice recognition) illuminated kick plates, trunk mat, net, and first aid package.
I haven't seen another Q40 on the road yet.
A new Honda Accord Sport is 25k +. So I could either keep the Q40, or spend the same amount for a (albeit two years newer) four banger, with cloth seats, base stereo, no nav, no moonroof.
5k in mods? What would that entail? Wheels, tires, suspension, tint...
The Base Q has the same wheels, tires and suspension that I have now.
It is screaming for those mods though.

That really is impressive. It might be the best most little known automotive value on the market today. Good for you.
$5K in mods... wheels, tires, suspension, exhaust, brakes, upper-engine, tune.
OK, maybe $7K in mods, LOL.
At this point, don't worry about any of that stuff, just buy a set of sway bars. That's a slam dunk mod.

wish i would have got my 2012 G for 31.5. I also saw the prices took a HUGE drop on the Q40 once the Q50 was out. i could have almost returned mine after the lease and got a 3 year newer car for not much more. it was def. a steal. i 2nd the sway bars. cheap and man cornering is 100% better now- even with those crappy 17" tires. i wouldn't even spend the money on exhaust, suspension, tune, etc. keep it stock and drive it for 10 years. cheap car.

Full disclosure, that ad wasn't the deal I actually ended up with.
It was $1k more because I wasn't a current owner, $400 for the paint, $240 for locking lugs and "tech coat" (BS). My arduous journey arriving at that deal is chronicled in a previous post.
My payment is just under $200 after tax.. But a $40K car for $31.5K is a great deal. It will be hard to let it go in 21 months. Like I said before an Accord Sport is as much as my residue.
I don't care about the navigation much but the "Studio on Wheels" is pretty good, for a stock set-up.
I am currently leasing a 2015 AWD Q40 base sedan ( has rearview homelink, heated front seats, heated side view mirrors, backup camera, XM ) for $29k / 39 months / $350 down / 10k miles/ $267 a month. I was orginally set to trade in my EX35 to a 2013 20k miles loaded G37x sedan for $25,800 ,but they were lowballing my trade.
I didn't mention my terms. 10,000 mi's/yr, 24 mo's.
I have a company vehicle and my wife works at home plus we have a truck and another car so 10,000 is no problem. I'm more worried about not getting my miles out of it.
A few family road trips should take care of that.

I don't know. The q50 seats were so comfortable! Although it did seem heavier and not as light as my G. Once floored it still got up and went. And the tranny seemed a little better too. I think it'll be my next car!
Warning, below is an opinion. Only ready if you truly have nothing better to do...no refunds on your time.
I am currently driving a Q50 loaner while my 2013 G37x is at the dealer I felt compelled to give my initial impression:
There is nothing special about this car! It "feels" generic. It feels like a rental car. It doesn't seem to be especially well put together or made with expensive materials. My loaner has the leatherette and it feels really thin and cheap. The user interface for the radio/nav, etc is decent but I hate the shiny screen that shows all your fingerprints. Perhaps a higher level model might have some aspects that are good but I'm trying to imagine who Infiniti is trying to lure in with the more basic (lesser equipped) models. I like the exterior design. That is a winner, in my opinion. However, the interior design is very much like many cars these days...center stack could have come from a Ford.
So, bottom line, I can't see anyone lusting over this car. There is nothing that draws you to it. I can only see someone being drawn to the car if Infiniti has great lease deals or the customer had a great experience with their G and decided to stay in the family. That is NOT a winning recipe for success. This car just doesn't move the needle.
It's a shame. With the resources available from the parent company, I would have expected a better offering. As is, it plays like a stop-gap until the "real" new generation comes out. Fingers crossed.
OK, I'll get down from my soapbox.

- the interior felt cheap.
- The dual screen center stack was sluggish and slow at best.
- Leather seats? didn't feel so premium. I can see this interior working well in a Ford, but not an Infiniti.
- Talking about the exterior, it is love at first sight. However I do think that the rear end of the car looks a bit Altima'ish? anyone else think the same?
- Steering felt light and almost non road connected for my taste.
- Bose stereo didn't sound as good as my 2013. Anyone else noticed it?
Yes Q40 is available as a viable future replacement, however I kind of wish, I can just swap the Q50's sheet of metal onto my G37 to have a winner of a car.
My Q50 loaner was total garbage in my opinion, just no soul whatsoever. I would never trade my '13 G for a Q50.
My 2nd loaner was the Q70 though, that was impressive. An entirely different type of car, but Infiniti did well with that one.

couldnt agree more with the OP. Had the q50 as a loaner for 2 weeks and hated it. Steering and suspension were awful. The touchscreen takes 5min to load. Some cheesy interior parts and a smaller back windshield. Meh.
I bought a Q50 2 months ago, although it doesn't have the characteristics as the G, it really is a great car with in it's Japanese competitors, IS350, TLX.. Although I prefer to drive my G37 coupe as my daily because of the engine/exhaust tones and the aggression of it. The car is really a bad ***..
Yeah the Q50 steering isn't the best it but it felt way better than the TLX.. upon buying the IS350 felt much better and was more refined than the Q but the power wasn't there, the TLX felt really smooth and very quiet but lacked that wow factor especially those missing exhaust. Now the BMW 335i which I was very close to getting rather than the Q was the best amongst them all, power was there, steering felt great, interior was okay the only thing I didn't want to run into was maintenance issue.
If you're in the market for a Q test drive it and yes the hybrid feels way much better and powerful but runs you a little higher than the S.
