I think what makes some folks jaded towards the Tanabes is that they are really just a set of very expensive/high quality mufflers. If the cost of the set was sub $300, I think many would appreciate the upgrade more, but six Benjamins is a bit much for mufflers.
Once you see a pic of the stock system off the sedan, you understand where Infiniti made concessions in order to minimize noise. Essentially, after the midpipes, that's 2" diameter tubing. Hence my interest in the Sebring mufflers. Within another thread, someone said that FI sells them for $125 each, which is a good price. I think you would then need a set of resonators with a 2.375 inlet and 2.5 outlet. The pipe from the resonator back to the new mufflers would not cost much. I think this is the path I will take at some point.

Just installed a used Tanabe on my G a few months ago. At first I thought it was exactly like stock, but then I opened the windows and realized the difference. It's a deeper sound, especially if you get on it or are over 3-4K RPM. To me, it's nearly perfect (I don't like the large tips) b/c it's not an obnoxious sound but it does deepen up the more you get on it. Well worth my $300 investment. $5-600? Probably not.
I put them on my car several years ago and like them lots. They are a little louder than stock. If you go to a Chevy dealer and check out a Corvette with the selectable performance exhaust, it sounds very much like that. It's a matter of taste. I did see an article that put a lot of different exhausts on cars and ran it on the dyno. The Medallion had about as much HP gain as anything. Personally, a really loud exhaust sounds too ricer for me. These make my G sound like the big muscle cars I loved so much as a kid in the 60s. It's comfortable. Maybe the younger guys grew up seeing slammed Accords with cherry-bomb exhausts that they idolized. Anyway, these sound more Corvette than Civic.
