2012 G37xS feels slower than my 2003 G35

It may be all in my head but it feels to me like my 2012 G37xS is slower than my old 2003 G35 which I still have and drive too.
I have never had “X” car before and the G37 is a 7 speed transmission vs 5 speed on the g35.
However, the G35 feels faster and seems to accelerate faster too. When punching the gas I can actually feel being pressed into the seat a little. Nothing on the g37.

I have not done any 0-60 runs to confirm.
Could this all be because of G35 is rwd and just driving it feel different?
Or did I get a bad copy of the G37?

Thanks for any useful input.

I believe that dyno runs on cars can vary greatly. For instance, I have seen pics of G37s with dynos around 270HP and some running 340HP. Some can run 13.4 1/4 miles, some run high 14s. Things like loose coil packs and other issues can have quite the affect on performance, or it could just be the tolerances which happen to be built into that particular motor/trans. Could also be a firmware issue. Hopefully someone could chime in with much more info, but multiples of the same car, same year can have quite different performance characteristics regarding power. Just as some of the same year and same car will be lemons with continuous problems.

Without actual evidence its tough to tell but I would assume what you're experience is the extra weight from the AWD.

Other things can play a role like aftermarket wheels v.s stock and so on.

But to be safe you could check your coils/spark plugs and change your oil. Are you using premium gas? I noticed a huge difference in the way the car performs from when I received it from the dealer with 87 to now using 93. (Others say it does nothing but IMO it helps and has been proven to increase performance)

From: Framingham Ma,
It's in your head. I ran a G37X back when I had my G35XS, and he walked away . :/.

The speed is not good an EH at best. but maybe try resetting the ECU and the driving hard for a day and let it relean. I'm guessing you bought it used and you are using 93oct gas correct.

Your G37X is also RWD until you break traction. Then its only AWD until traction is regained.

My 04 G35 made a lot more noise, spent more time hanging out in 5 gears vs. 7. Placebo effect was G35 was the sportier. But certainly not true.

The oil/spark plugs/gas/resetting ecu/loose coil packs/firmware/spark plugs/wheels/etc advice & suggestions I'm not sure of. Have a buddy drive your G37x and you the G35 and I think you'll see.

like the OP, i was surprised when i got my G37S after selling my '04 G35 6MT sedan. my butt-dyno told me that the G35 was much quicker and more torquey around town and in low-rpm situations. i almost always shifted at or below 2500rpm while commuting with the G35. but with the G37 i'm closer to 3000rpm on the same roads to keep a similar pace as with the G35.

part of the trouble is an extra ~2-300lbs or so with the G37 with virtually the same torque numbers. i have no question that the G37 is quicker after 4k rpms - i could tell that immediately. where the G35 felt a bit flat up high, the G37 pulls much harder.

based on most test results i've seen, the G37 is universally quicker/faster than the G35. of course, that is being driven at 9/10 and above and at higher rpm where the G37's extra power comes to the table. but for a DD around town, the extra ~50hp (compared to Gen 1) is not as noticeable as i would have expected unless a guy is winding it out.

it would have been great to extract more torque with the 3.7L. i expect the upcoming turbo 4 and 6 cylinder Q50 engines to solve the torque issue...hopefully the 6MT void as well. although from what i read even the Q60 coupe is losing the 6MT!

From: Framingham Ma,
The other thing guys dont realize is that the "dumb" 7spd is always in the wrong gear, at 35 MPH you in like 5th :/ WHY. LOL I drive it manually mode 100% of the time with my paddles . So 35 MPH I'm still in 3rd.

went from 03 (auto) to 2010 (auto). thought it was slower too at first.

changed spark plug, clean throttle, change oil (mobil 1 synthetic + mobil 1 filter) & use premium gas. now 2010 feels faster.

my first gen g35 has 260hp, the g37xs has 330, that is 70HP. I am just not feeling it...
but it does seem like the 7 speed tranny is the main problem. Will have to ask one of my friends to drive my old g35 next to me and see what happens.

Manual to auto probably a big factor in this feeling.
