Hit and run... and a dilemma...

Yup. Hit and run.

I never thought it would happen to me but ya... it happened...

I was visiting my sister at her school to grab lunch today and when we returned to my car afterwards, I noticed something that I never seen before (pic).

Well long story short, now I'm in a dilemma since my car is on lease so whether I should fix the bumper now and buy out the car or I should fix it right before I return the car. (I'm currently 15 months away from my end lease term and I'm at 44,xxx miles (39 months/ 15,000 per year).)
Help.

My heart is never been so broken even when I broke up with my ex's but if I look on the bright side, nobody was hurt and my G runs fine any other way. But one thing for sure, I will not go near my sister's campus. Ever.

Always hurts to get your car messed up, especially a hit & run. Looks like the actual dent should pop out hopefully, then a bit of a smooth, repaint and blend. Shouldn't cost too much if the dent pops out.
G/L with this.

Since it's just a lease, I would just heat it with a heat gun and pop that dent back out. Then buff the majority of those marks away (looks like a lot of it is their paint on top of your paint) and I bet you'll be surprised at how inconsequential it may look. Worst case scenario, you're no worse off if you have to go ahead and have it fixed professionally.

Find whomever conned you into leasing and have them pay for the repairs.

Leaving the damage any longer than next weekend wouldn't even be a consideration for me, so I'd follow vqsmile's advice. You might even find the heat gun unnecessary.

I don’t believe any DIY effort would get past the end-of-lease inspection. That bumper needs to be replaced. Having had mine replaced a few years ago it should cost around $800-$900 at a good body shop.

I've had a similar dent my G35 coupe years back. It was a hot day in socal, so I just reached from behind and pushed the dent out. Used some rubbing compound and a little bit of elbow grease, then a nice wax, and you wouldn't even knew it was there.

Ouch! I would cry if that were to happen to my car. But as above a DIY wouldn't past a lease inspection so I would cut my losses and have a reputable shop repair it. Sorry about your car!

That Stinks.

But like some have said you can easily clean a lot of that up yourself.

Also, a body shop maybe be able to do a bit better job with polish and a buffer for about $100 to $150.

I had something similar but my car is red.

However from what I see you may need some repainting. Luckily its low and touch ups might conceal it cause your white.

It's a lease, I assume where you live full coverage is mandatory.. .Just have insurance pay to fix it.

If you don't, you're going to have a nice bill at the end of your lease anyway.

I say get a quote to have it repaired and then decide if it's worth the claim or not. Technically this would be a comprehensive claim and not collision but some insurance companies make it difficult to get it processed as such when it is from a vehicle being contacted by another vehicle. If it is processed as a collision claim it could impact rates versus comprehensive claim which usually doesn't. Example of comprehensive would be vehicle stolen or you hit a deer that jumped in from of you or .

I was once told by my insurance agent if a deer jumps in from of you hit it because if you veer lose control or hit another vehicle, building, curb, tree etc it is a different type of claim (Collision versus Comp) and will affect rates for years to come.

Sorry it happened I have had a window broken before and car side swiped while parked on the street sucks.

Thank you everyone for the advice. So I decided to have a shop to pop out the dent and buff out the paint which will cost me 150 bucks. It won't be a perfect job but that is the best I can do as of now.

Not bad, at least it's a lot easier to look at now
Now you just have to avoid any place where another hit & run jerk might be lurking

Please follow up and post another picture here showing the results of the "pop and buff" fix.

So this is what happened:

My bumper healed itself(!?).

I was planning on taking my car to the shop for 'pop out and buff off' job sometime this week but my buddy asked me last night if I got my bumper fixed. I said no and checked out the damage. It was healed up! I really didn't pay attention for couple of days to not make myself feel sad about it. Well its not perfect but looks fine so I'm just going to drive it as is for now.

interesting.. looks a bit better. some elves must have come at night. anyway, I would probably just have it fixed now since you're going to have to anyways due to the car being a lease. If you fix it now, atleast you can enjoy it looking nice and clean, rather than just the next person that owns the car after the lease.
