Led Foot?

I just bought a 2011 g37x with 50,000 miles and I was wondering if you guys drive your cars hard? I do a lot of driving around town and I like to accelerate harder than most--maybe 4500rpm every time. Is there any harm from doing this? I know someone who has a 2003 fx35 and they drive it like they stole it even when it's cold and it has been trouble free even at 150,000.

If you don't drive it hard once in a while, then you bought the wrong car. More so the RWD Sport over the AWD, however the G is very worthy as a driver's car, regardless of OEM trim or aftermarket mods. So enjoy it, but be realistic, too. While the capabilities of the G are better than your average sedan, it's still mostly an average sedan.

You really want to drive your G Sedan like you stole it? Then install some aftermarket sway bars, and swap in some summer-only performance tires. More than anything else, those two simple things will transform the way you experience the car.

if you don't rev it up occasionally then the carbon builds up in your valves... or so I've been told

I'm sure most G drivers get it for the "upscale" marketing but still value-oriented pricing (relative to German cars), so plenty of these cars are not seeing their potential (admittedly mine included, but I hit redline once in a while)

The G is a very low-key since it's not really marketed as a drivers sedan (like 335, S4, etc), but I'm sure getting more out of the car than most (within reason) is perfectly healthy for it.

Never heard of carbon buildup issues?? Only heard that for Audis

I push mine constantly. I have always driven my cars fast but contain myself in city and high traffic areas. Nothing wrong with enjoying your car to whatever extent you'd like as long as your not putting other lives in danger.

4500 rpm would be a low shift point for me. I'll roll down my residential street at 25 in first gear.

My car sees redline in 1st and 2nd probably a dozen times a day. No oil consumption or any issues, but I've also never got more than 14.x mpg according to the dash display

Hitting the rev limited once in a while is fine. Your gas mileage will suffer and clutch wear may occur if you're not rev matching properly. Aside from that, drive it like you stole it.

When I had the bike, it was very rare not to hit <censored> digit speeds when on the interstate. That only had a 11K redline.

All that said, I drive the car generously this time of year. Winter tires are pricey and soft. Need them to last. Summer is a different matter. I have fun with it often.

@lego, your sig looks very familiar...

I've had my 2011 G37X since July '14 and I still just can't help it - I enjoy flooring it and then seeing all the cars that were just with me at the red light way back in my rear view.
I don't really speed, but I accelerate quickly. No problems yet.

+1 on this. Describes my driving style to a tee. As long as you choose the right roads and times to speed and drive aggressively then it's all good. I have a few roads that are primo to drive hard and take curves that are challenging at speed...SO MUCH FUN!!
Then there are the occasional spots on the interstate that have the concrete dividers (police barrier lol) or a guard rail that will let you really open it up. I enjoy those high speed short runs quite a bit, but the rural curvey roads are by far my favorite.

I usually give my baby at least 5-8 min of gentle driving before I hammer down tho. Other than that enjoy your machine IMO

Given the marvelous torque curve that is the signature of the VQ engine, it is surely a waste (and practically a crime) not to enjoy the "swell" of acceleration that occurs continuously through the upper rpm range. These engine are designed and built for high revs; they love it! As long as you give them regular maintenance, and make sure they're properly warmed up first, you should have no problems with hitting 7K on a routine basis. The way I see it, the only difference between "use" and "abuse" here is the maintenance.

I hit redline 1x a day at a min. It's part of the trans training regimen - wouldn't want it to learn to shift too early...

I drive my car hard everyday. What's the point of owning a 4 door 370Z if you aren't planning on having some fun. There's even a guy in my area that has a bone stock m56 and I swear everytime I see him, he thinks that every red light means he's at a drag strip. Seriously though, that boat can move out quick!

4500rpm? Isn't redline 7500rpm (at least for my G35)? Use the rest of rev range. ;-)

Its called the "Italian tune-up". haha

Don't worry about it, do proper maintenance and enjoy the car.
