Trunk Release not working

I am having an issue where my trunk release (the one on the trunk itself) doesn't open the trunk. It only happens if, after I park and turn off the car, a passenger still has their door open. If their door is open, I cannot open the trunk using the button on the trunk. The remote button works fine. As soon as they close the door, I can open it again with no problems.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I took it to the dealership and of course they couldn't find anything and said they couldn't do much unless a code came up.

Did you check the switch in the glove box?

Holy crap. I've had this happen to me just today. I called the dealer and he told new to check the valet button as well. However, I mentioned that one the doors are all closed, it works. He said "yeah, that's not how valet mode works".

It happened before, but I asked l assumed it was a battery issue in the remote. I've just tested this again, and with my sedan, if either back door is open, the remote cannot unlock the car, nor can it open the trunk. The front doors being open do not affect the trunk release and if I hit unlock, the lights flash and the locks unlock even though is already unlocked. An open back door stops all this from happening.

The service writer agreed that it was abnormal behavior. It's so freaking ironic and coincidental that you made this thread on the same day I experienced it and called the dealership. I'll eventually bring it in there to have check it out and I'll let you know what they say. They aren't convenient to me or else if do it during the week.

I hadn't, since it appears to be working properly, except when a door is open, but I did this morning. It is set in the ON position, which is correct.

I did notice that it only happens when I am standing on the left side of the trunk. Since I am right-handed, that is most of the time. If I move to the right side (with key in pocket) it works. So strange.
It works from either side if the doors are all closed.

So, the only time I see this problem is if a door is open and I am standing on the left side of the trunk.
My rear driver's side door was just replaced due to an accident where someone hit that side. I am wondering if something wasn't put back correctly.
