bought used g37x

Hello this is my first post everyone. I recently bought a 2011 infiniti g37x sedan from a toyota dealership. The oil which was put in was 0w-20 mobil 1 and after 500 miles it is definitely pretty dark. Before they serviced it upon the sale, the oil was jet black too. It only has 36k miles on it. Any suggestions? I bought a bosch distance plus filter and considering pennzoil ultra platinum after another 500 miles. I understand the job of oil is to absorb contaminants so its just doing its job but i think its a little too soon for such a dark deep amber color. Thanks

Hi Sean, welcome to the site. I use Pennz Platinum and the Bosch filter, although I use the larger filter for the Infiniti V8 motors (same application as an Infiniti M56 FWIW) it's about 30% larger than the puny G37 filters. The recommended viscosity for the VQ motors is 5-30, I got some 5-20 by mistake a couple years ago but the Used Oil Analysis was improved over the 5-30 so I stuck w/ it lol. You might want to send off an oil sample to Blackstone Labs next oil change so you can have a baseline and see how it's held up.

Thanks Brad. Yea I know it requires a 5w-30. So the dealership will replace the oil with mobil 1 5w-30. Are you saying your oil analysis was better with the 5w-20? what are your OCI? Have you compared mobil 1 with pennzoil analysis? Do you suggest lucas, sea foam, or any other additive? I heard putting in 1 qt or 1/2 qt of ATF in the oil crank shaft and running the engine for 10 minutes before and oil change also helps clean up sludge. I really hope I'm over worrying bc this car only has 36k miles on it.

My OCIs are 6k miles, I ran Mobil1 5-30 prior. I need to dig up those UOAs, but my Pennz UOAs were a slight improvement, but I didn't have a Pennz 5-30 UOA so I can't say if it was due to the Pennz blend &/or the thinner weight or a combo of both
