What do you ask for when going to the shop?

Do you just say "muffler delete" and let them go to town, or do you ask for pipe size, etc.?

This seems like something that most DC area shops wouldn't do, but only one way to find out...

Well where I live, down in the dirty sahhhth, It's a bunch of good ol' boys workin' in the shop, real billy bob types. *insert banjo here*
So all I said was "Straight Pipes" and they knew what to do. It's extremely common on trucks here, and cars too.

How I'd explain it to your shop though, would be like this. "I'd like the mufflers cut before where they meet the mid pipe, and then straight pipes welded in their place, with the stock tips welded on." (or different ones if you so choose, pipe diameter is 2.25" if memory serves)

CUT ON THE MUFFLER SIDE. DO NOT CUT UP THE MID PIPE. If you decide you don't like it, or ever put a "real" axleback/muffler on there, it'll be a real pain if you fk with the mid pipe.

EDIT: As for pipe size - I believe they put 2.5" on mine. Little baby pipes

Shops should be able to supply flanges so you can bolt the straight pipes on. Won't help with tips but you can also buy those if'n you want.

I'd never do it to my car, but I think it sounds as good or better(less rasp) than some actual exhausts. Pretty clean and not too loud.

I'm seriously thinking of doing it, but I'm going to split it at the flanges and buy different tips so that I can easily return to stock later if I want to.

Consider these tips, nice & subtle but still a clear upgrade (IMO)

Exhaust Muffler Tip Oval Forward Slash Cut Double Wall Inter-cooled Rolled Edge Resonated 2" Inlet / ID, 4.75X3.25"Outlet / OD #RTP-005

I'd have this done very soon too, but too concerned with law enforcement in the area, VA state inspection...

I have a muffler delete on my sedan and imo its pretty weak. I mean it does sound nice but its mostly interior noise. Now I am thinking about removing the resonators in the midpipe as well. Has anyone heard resonator and muffler delete on a sedan?

It's not insanely loud, but it's just right to me. Taking that much back pressure out of the exhaust, you'll lose HP. And it'll be nothing but BWAAAAAAAA on the highway. I'd recommend against it, but hey, go for it if that's what you like. Cheers.

Thank you! I had been looking for those. I found these as well… http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mpe-35158/overview/

I like what you posted more though.

What makes you say that?

You won't necessarily lose it, it will just shift higher up the powerband.

Really? The clips sound great to me. Did you extend back to the original tip location? I think all the clips I have heard are 7AT.

Is yours a 7AT or 6MT? I ask this question because my '09 xS 7AT sounded sweet - not too loud, but it growled nicely. My '11 6MT is quiet as a mouse and I hate the sound.

While I had both cars I got underneath and I only saw two differences - the resonators looked slightly different and the x has a jog in the x-pipe on one side to clear the transfer case.

VQCrew's comments worry me. I was thinking ... the mufflers do unbolt with about a foot of pipe ... I was thinking of pulling them off this weekend just to see what it sounds like. The open pipes would end a short distance past the rear axle. Probably loud inside that way. I wouldn't keep it that way, but maybe it would give me more confidence that the I'd like the sound. Has anyone tried that?

I have the muffler delete with 2 1/4 pipes from my resonators. It is quite loud at WOT, especially with my r2c intake, but once you get up to cruising speed (70-80 on the interstate) it mellows out. I have a wife, 6 year old son, and 18 month old son and we take my car places without any issues.
