Exhaust Sound Question

First off, I have searched for answers in the forums, but have ended up with many more questions than answers. I am looking to improve my exhaust note for the least amount of money, but with the understanding that modding is addictive. I want something that I can build on in the future, if and when I desire to do so. I am looking for an exhaust note that is aggressive but not in a ricer kind of way. A deeper growl without any tin can sound. After reading up on so many different opinions, but trying to maintain a relatively stock look under the hood, I am leaning toward a R2C intake, and a Fast Intentions Axle back. Constructive criticism and opinions please..............

Well FI does not fit the bill (least amount of money) IMO, but cheapest route that sounds simply amazing on the sedan is a muffler delete. Cost you around $100 and I can almost assure you, you will not be able to replicate that deep growl it gives you with any other aftermarket exhaust. Only prob is the drone which if I didnt have kids was more than tolerable to me...pending your taste. As for intake I have the stillen gen3 on my sedan and the black nickle R2C on the wifes...honestly dont think you can go wrong with either. I feel the Stillen gives you more top end to where the R2C provides a little more mid range...so pending on what your truly looking for. Best of luck

I'm running r2cs and a full FI exhaust including RHFCs on mine. I definitely like it. Not the cheapest route as noted but I felt well worth it.

I've been playing the "what exhaust to get" game since I got my car in March and still haven't decided. I was going to do a muffler delete/straight pipe, but was told I'd have issues passing an inspection in Missouri. I've looked into seabring axlebacks for around $250 (which I've heard is what FI uses and/or used), but haven't been able to find anyone with it or any videos online. Right now I'm looking into the beluga axleback (around $250 as well) because I've seen some videos on YouTube of a 370 with it and it sounds pretty damn good. I've also been told that flowmaster super 10's have a pretty good sound on a G as well

Just my .02¢ though.....

There are a lot of good options out there both exhaust and intake wise. If the least amount of money is your main concern check out TopSpeed's beveled axle back. Its in the <$500 range and is well built. It is pretty quiet compared to the other exhausts out there but leaves plenty of room in the budget for an intake and HFCs if you want to go that route. The HFCs will open up the exhaust and give it a deeper tone.

Intake wise there is R2C, Injen, and Stillen to name a few. The Stillen Gen 3 requires the front bumper to be removed for install but it is a true cold air intake. I run the R2C and am very satisfied with it. Its well built and sounds great even though its not a "true" cold air intake like the Stillen or Injen.

Hope this helps!

it is a never ending game...

here was my experience: initially went out and bought ARK catback (loved the sound), shortly after had my passenger side cat fail so figured might as well upgrade to HFC instead of replacing and spending money on an OEM (loved the power but WAY too loud IMO), one of the welds broke on my Berk HFCs so replaced with Kinetix HFC, decided I wanted to quiet things down so decided to sell the ARK and replace with just Tanabe axle back (too quiet & raspy with the HFC)....currently still have the Kinetix HFCs with oem mufflers (now confused)

to sum things up I would definitely try to determine if you plan on doing HFCs down the road because you really need to be careful which catback you choose now. There are so many quiet catback systems out there Invidia, Tanabe, haven't heard the Stillen which would probably be too quiet with oem cats but sound great with HFCs. If you don't plan on touching the cats I would probably suggest ARK, FI, or possibly Stillen. Hope this makes sense

I have OEM cats and stillen on my sedan and absolutely LOVE the sound! I get compliments all the time on it. Has a nice deep growl and can be loud under WOT. If your keeping OEM cats and are considering stillen I highly recommend it

I am assuming that was a typo - as I do not believe Fast Intentions makes an Axle back....only full cat back.

If you wanted to go axle back - Tanabe is an option. Could add y- and mid-pipe at a later date if so desired...

I have topspeed and I love it. It has a deep sound to it and I get compliments because it's not overly loud but IMO multiplies the stock exhaust sound to a sportiest tone. Paid less than $599 almost 2 years ago and it looks really great still.

Every so often I use mothers metal polish on it.

I have the R2C intake as well as the Tanabe Medallion. It's not very very loud, but when you step on it, it's pretty aggressive. I love my setup!

Sounds very similar to the set-up I will go with. Do you have any video of the sound by chance? Would love to hear it combined with the CAI.

Is that the Gen 3 CAI? Any install issues?

thnx

The Stillen catback with the 7AT on the Sedan was major drone city for me which is why I switched to a Tanabe Medalion axle back. Loving the Tanabes on my daily driver.

Long time lurker but finally decided to join and hopefully contribute.

I had the same dilemma as the original poster, wanted a louder exhaust for the least amount of money. I ended up doing the muffler delete and went a step further and took off the midpipe as well, big mistake. It was obnoxiously loud, sounded like an old civic hatchback. Now my car sits without any mufflers waiting for my topspeed exhaust which should be here the end of the month barring no more delays.

My only question is, so is the topspeed exhaust quiet or loud? Sorry for the rambling.
