G37 Sedan

Debating purchasing a new 6MT sedan...

Debating purchasing a new 6MT sedan...

I currently own a 2010 37S auto, I looked for a good 4 months to find a 6MT and had zero luck anywhere remotely close to me (not even 2-3 states away), took me ahwile to even locate a low milage S. Needless to say Ive found a 2013 6MT, car has 7500 miles on it and listed for 29.9K. Just not sure if I should take the leap and enjoy driving a hell of alot more or just continue with what I have? I plan on keeping my G for years to come...my only other issue is returning the car back to stock...exhaust, intake, springs, headlights, fogs. Decisions decisions

tough call, and a very personal decision so it's hard to say what the best course of action is for you and your situation (family, commute, etc). if it was me, i would seriously consider the swap. but then i wouldn't have bought the 7AT to begin with. that sounds like a sweet 6MT you found, and i suspect it will be snapped up soon. hopefully it is not low mileage due to a collision. i've seen that before.

we all know that the 6MT in the G is not the smoothest gearbox, but IMO there is no substitute for rowing your own gears. certainly not the 7AT from what i've heard. aside from the gearbox and possibly color they are very similar cars so you know what you are getting.

what could you get for your ride? if the upgrade price is do-able and you have your heart set on a manual then you may have no choice but to jump at one of the last low-mile 6MT G37 sedans available on the planet. i doubt any new units are left, so this one is a rare bird.

well I definitely feel you on "hard time finding a 6MT sedan" part... I'm from NJ and I found my 2013 6MT sedan in Houston,TX with 4.6k miles , flew there and drove it back ! I say, get the 6mt and enjoy it as much as you can, especially since that it's the last model year that you can get a Sedan with 6MT

all valid points, commute is luckily a 10 min drive , have to have a back seat for the kidos, and yes I agree with you about buying the 7at in the first place but was just ready back then for a change and after months and months of searching I finally went with the S (which again was hard as hell to find in my area). Guess we'll see what they offer me for mine, mines a 2010 with only 25k miles on her and black on black which is very desirable imo. Oh and no collisions or anything (1 owner), have a buddy who can pull carfax for me anytime. And I know its personal decision, but was just curious as to what others would do if in same boat. At this point, I actually got the wifey to sign off on it so heading to the bank today. Just gonna need a week or 2 to get her back to stock

If you kept your OEM parts for the easy swap over & think you can sell the 7at quick then strongly consider it, no doubt you will be immensely more satisfied with the 6mt.

If not, it will likely be a hassle/mad dash to find replacement OEM parts and convert to stock. Also, trade-in should be last resort (unless that convenience is worth it to you), although it might be a wash since you're also buying another G.

Good luck & hope it works out, with a dwindling supply that car is def a rare find, and you'll likely be driving a G even longer than you had planned if you grab a 6mt, it's a very fun ride (and nearly the last of a dying breed)

get the 6mt and never look back. i have a 11 6mt G37s sedan and my brother had a 11 g37xS sedan. totally different cars

I sold my '09 7AT xS last summer and bought a 6MT. Had the same difficulty finding one - they are non-existent in Colorado and hard to find even in warm states. I am very happy with my decision. It drives like a 370Z with 4 doors. The clutch is very difficult to shift smooth ... for me the RJM was a no-brainer.

I live in MA and wanted a G37S Coupe 6MT RWD. Ended up flying to FL and driving mine back up. There were more of them in FL and less expensive. I did find some in my area, but because they were limited they were more expensive. Even accounting for airfare and gas (I slept a little in my car) it was less than an equivalent car was going for around here and I still saved money after the expenses compared to the cars around me.

You know what you want, what are you willing to do for it.

Besides, the 30 hours in the car (sleeping included) was awesome to get to know her, bought it and then drove it up the coast. I would do it again, but everyone is different

I had a friend check the car out, so I did the transaction remotely. It was less expensive than flying out and driving it back - although one thing I did not expect - Colorado taxes the shipping costs, so I had to pay sales tax on $650 shipping in addition to the price I paid for the car.

One warning - if you do drive the car back, you typically have to pay sales tax in the state you bought it and then again when you license it in your own state. Make sure that your state has reciprocity or whatever with the state you are buying from so that you get credit for the taxes paid.

That's a fair price for a 2013 6MT with only 7k miles, you get three more years of B2B warranty, and there's no denying that the 6MT is more engaging to drive. All good things. But you have the RWD-S Sedan, so you've already had the identical car for over 3 years (excepting for the MT), familiar and modified.

Like everyone else here, it took me months to find my car, and even then it was 400 miles away and a long day of road trips.

Since you're at a crossroad because of an ending lease, my advice is to move on to something new and different. I know that might seem out of character, because I'd be the first to defend the 6MT Sedan as a fantastic, unique car. But life is too short to keep doing the same car over and over. So get to your crossroad, and then take the road less traveled.

If my car got totalled, pretty sure that's what I would do. Then again, I recently test drove a car that makes the G seem cheap and slow, and I still haven't shaked that feeling out of my system.

Rochester, what's next? I don't know what I'd buy right now if I had to do it over again. I still want a MT, but nothing out there really meets the criteria of being a [semi] high hp rwd sedan.

I don't know. Unless the G get's trashed unexpectedly, the plan is to drive it for another 6 years, and keep modding it slowly year over year.

I test drove a Jaguar F-Type S Coupe last week, completely on whim. $80k worth of 380 hp awesome... and that was with a slushbox, which surprisingly, didn't seem to matter to me. Really made me see the G in a whole new light. That's what I mean when I said I hadn't shook that feeling out of my system yet.

Lets tighten the criteria some, ~$40K, give or take

My plan is to keep the car a long time too. Maybe I'll get a focus ST or such and with the money saved get another bike. I'll need two bikes though... One to tour on, one to play with. Another $40k!@# (in addition to cost of the car).
