Newbie Question About a Chime

I have a new to me 2011 G37X that I'm getting to know. Sometime between when I picked up the car last month and now I have started to get a somewhat musical chime that I can't identify. I have taken some time to search this Forum without luck. Heck, I even read the owners manual

When I either set the ignition to ACC or start the engine I am getting a chime that is about 10 notes that rises then falls in tone. I hear the chime roughly 7-10 seconds after powering up the ignition. There are no warning lights on the dash and it doesn't seem to be associated with any settings. It's not a problem, but I just hate a mystery

Now that the little ice age is moving out of New England I'm starting to get an opportunity to enjoy the car. Right now I'm exploring the handling by slaloming the pot holes and the performance by merging into the maniac Boston highway traffic. This is usually followed by exploring the ABS performance. So far, so good.

Only time I hear a chime in my 2012 sedan is when my Nav is on which lets me know when to make a turn in route.

Thanks! No Nav. It's a cheerful little trill and doesn't really bother me other than not knowing what it is. It wasn't there when I bought the car and since then I have pushed, switched and set everything I could find; evidently I did something to provoke it.

I have a 2010 with Nav. I have not noticed any chime in the 4 years I have owned the car.

I get 4 beeps when the car turns over or when the ignition is turned to the ON position. This is the only "chime" that should exist on a G. I get a noise when temperature drops below 32 degrees because I set my cluster to alert me. So still, nothing like what you are encountering...

Are there any aftermarket modules installed that could be the source of this chime?

None that I'm aware of. It does seem to play through the entertainment speaker now that I think about it. I have the plane Jane Bose system. The 7-10 second delay before sounding is odd.

Hmm, the chime may have started right about the time that I started recording and filling the Music Box(R).

Why don't you try to record the sound and post it so we know what you're talking about...

The previous owner could have had a radar detector hardwired in and what you're hearing is the radar detector turning on.

Thanks for the replies!

I checked last night and the chime is coming from the dash at the left side vent area and not the stereo.

I'll try to get a sound byte and figure out how to attach or link the file.

The only Inifniti dealers are 40 miles to the west or 40 miles to the south in dense traffic so I won't be casually stopping by to ask about my ding-a-ling

Ok, I have a (quite poor) sound clip on Youtube.
The chime starts around 14 seconds, that is the delay time from going to ACC or starting the engine. The chime is actually more musical and pleasant than this cell phone clip. At the very beginning of the clip the quick GACK sound is my Escort Redline announcing it's ON.

Thanks for the help!

Sounded like a cell phone ringtone rather than a chime.

Definitely something aftermarket. Could it be a sound your cell phone makes when it links up to the car bluetooth?
