Hey guys long story short I let my friend drive my car and he scraped a pole when backing out of a parking spot. How much does or generally cost to replace the door and installation fee? Should I go to dealership or body shop? I'm debating whether I should let insurance fix it or just pay out of pocket. What's a reasonable quote I can expect? Going into a shop today and don't want to get ripped off. Thanks in advance!

Just give your friend the bill.

Wow. That's not going to be a cheap fix. I personally wouldn't pay out of my pocket for it, I would make him pay out of his pocket. If you go through your insurance you run the risk of your rates going up. It may be worth it to see if his insurance company may pay for it, I doubt they would but it's worth a try.
That's exactly why I let very very few people drive my car, if at all.

Yeah I know. Never letting anyone drive ever again. Lesson well learned. He said he will pay for it or his insurance will if that works. But I just wanted to see if anyone had any idea around what the cost it will be
My dad told me a long time ago....
"Never lend out your woman or your ride"
The one time I didnt follow his words....it bit me in MY ***.
Bottom line, your friends insurance wont cover it, so hes either gotta cough up the dough to fix it or cough up the dough for your deductible.
Nice "friend" you got there BTW
Couple grand is going to be in the ball park maybe even a bit more. He definately did a number on it. I had the front fender replaced and paint etc and it ran about $1,800.00 after a pole incident in my Z. I put it on insurance and I am still paying for it even though I don't own the car any more.

Some guy backed into my 13' Camry in between the two doors and the damange was about the same as yours (minus the side mirror). The repair with insurance was $3100. It may be more if you go without insurance since body shops have contracted rates with insurance companies.
You can try getting a quote without insurance.
Sometimes going through insurance means they will send you to a shop, problem with this is they may have a pre-arrangement to use refurbished parts or try to fix as much as they can without replacing with new.

Bery difficult to see how much front fender damage there is in that pic. Even if it's not badly creased, that entire fender will need to stripped and repainted, which is expensive. Rather than speculate on costs in your area, why not just get an estimate from your favorite local body shop?
