OEM Spoiler back to Stock (Chrome Piece)
OEM Spoiler back to Stock (Chrome Piece)
Has anyone ever put back on their stock chrome spoiler after mounting on the OEM Rear Deck Spoiler? If so, did you experience any issues?
I am thinking about going back to that chrome piece, but still not sure since they had to drill holes to mount the rear deck spoiler.

That's one reason why I didn't drill the holes that are outside the chrome for my spoiler. Spoiler's been mounted for several years now and still fits flush & tight. To patch those holes and do a repaint & blend is going to cost quite a bit, probably at least $500.
Do you just dislike the spoiler that much? Might be able to find someone that would trade trunk lids, might be the easiest solution and a win for someone wanting a spoiler on the cheap if they were close by.

I don't dislike the spoiler now that it's been on my car for a little less than a year. I'm just starting like the chrome piece more.
My spoiler and other aero parts were installed at the shop when I got all my other mods done. Does the template that come with the rear deck spoiler require drilling outside the chrome piece? If thats the case then I'll just stick to it. Unless someone with a blue slate wants to swap trunk lids.

As far as the template, yes, it's part of the install w/ the press clips that snap the spoiler to the outer body panels. I doubt the installer would not have drilled them, you could always call and ask though.

Hmm, the local Infiniti dealer just quoted $100.88 for the install, including a loaner car and a lifetime guarantee on the install. I think I might just play it safe and pay the 100 bucks, saves me time and also ensures that the holes are drilled correctly. I might be able to go in and talk to a rep and get the price down a bit.

Thanks for the advice guys! I'm looking into see if some friends can help me out since I don't have the tools or a work space (live in the city). If not I may just have to bite the bullet and pay the dealer, I'm usually only home on Fri-Sun, but I have a rare week at home next week.
It's not that hard to do the install if you have the patience and the ***** to drill into your trunk. As Blnewt has said, I've heard of people not drilling the outside holes with no issues. Took me about 3 hours to install with no issues and I did drill the holes. Just wanted to give you my .02 and maybe save you $100.
I didn't drill the outside holes and turned out just fine

The independent body shop was cheaper and I think I trust them a little more. The local dealer wanted 100.88 for the rear spoiler and 120.32 for the lip. Still not bad for dealer prices if you want to go that route.
