Need help diagnosing a problem

Good day everyone. My G37x (2010) is at around 60,000 KM

Lately I've been noticing a very rough idle, as in when im stopped on D, my seat is almost shaking, and the engine makes a wierd sound (sounds like a school bus at idle engine sound), but its not very easy to hear. I don't seem to have any problems at WOT (I should mention I do sense a very, very little delay in the acceleration). I'm not a tech, but I opened the hood today while it was running and the engine did not sound normal at all.

Only mods I've done are installed FI Cats half a year ago. This problem was just noticed maybe 2 weeks ago

Any guesses?

Thank you

Why guess? A VQ engine running that erratically is sure to thave some codes in memory. Pull those codes and you'll have a better place to start looking for a solution.

Like I said I don't have a background. I have no CEL, and no idea how to pull codes, and I'm quite far from a dealer atm. Wanted to see if its something that maybe someone else has experienced. I've read it could be MAF sensor related etc, but again, I wouldn't know.

How often do you check your air filters?
When was the last time they were changed and how many miles are on them?
Might be a good place to start.

Ever hear a VQ when it was low on oil? It's very unpleasant.

LOL, yeah. There's a very good reason why most 5.5 Gen Maxima owners drove around with an extra quart (or two) of motor oil in the trunk.

Anyway, OP, check your oil level. Just to rule that out.

Oh man, your comment brings back memories. I remember having to add a quart in between oil changes.

OP, I've also been experiencing similar symptoms and, like Telcoman mentioned, cleaning my air filters helped to minimize the loud idle a bit. However, I didn't have a rough idle so I can't comment on that.

Have you tried going to an autozone or similar parts store and asked to have a diagnostic test run to see what, if any, codes it's throwing? Most parts stores will do it for free or even allow you to do it yourself if you want. I had a '06 galant gts for awhile and I started to have a real rough idle and small delay or loss of power when accelerating. It ended up being an ignition coil that went out causing a missfire of one of the cylinders.

I did have another quesiton. While in the hood, I noticed the coolant reservoir was practically empty, just a bit in the bottom. Is that a normal level? No CEL

I only did an oil replacement last month.

Here's a question that may seem odd but humor me to follow my logic: Where did you get your last oil change?

+1 on this! The one and only time I had a vehicle at jiffy lube I done it because I had a free coupon. They tried telling me my truck, which was only like 18 months old, needed a new belt(s). I asked them to show me which ones and then for some odd reason they couldn't find the one(s) that was worn........
