2013 G37S - "service engine soon"

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here and also a new Infiniti owner. I just purchased a 2013 G37S in October with 16K miles. I know have about 24K miles on the car and my "service engine soon" light just came on.

Before I bring it to the dealer and get raped, does anyone have any idea why this could be happening now?

TY,

Your car is brand new with 24k miles on it.... it is under full factory bumper to bumper warranty so you wont get 'raped' if you take it to the dealer...

If you want peace of mind to be sure that the dealership tell you what's really going on, you could always read the code your self with an OBD reader to see what is going on.

Yeah to echo what BB said, you can get one off ebay for like 20-30 bucks (the type you can connect to via bluetooth with your phone). Any autoparts store usually has one on hand as well.

If you stick with the forum, someday you'll look back and laugh at your first post... My car has a CEL, does anyone know why? And that's OK, everyone has to start somewhere, I suppose. Make an appointment at the dealership, or get the codes read at an auto shop, or buy a code reader... these are all virtually cost-free, not inconvenient options to find out what's going on.

As for getting "raped" by the INFINITI dealership, that's just ignorant. No one is going to take advantage of you without your explicit (or implied) permission. Not every dealership is predatory... and the only people who get taken advantage of at dealerships are primarily people who don't look out for themselves. Unless the dealership is really, really good at screwing people. There are places like that, too.

Man up, take care of your car, and welcome to the forum. We need more RWD Sport Sedan owners around here.

The Owner's Manual for my 2010, page 2-17, discusses the "Service Engine Soon" message from the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL). The message is usually associated with some malfunction in the emission control system. The most common cause is the gas cap being loose. If the message is on steady, check that the gas cap is on securely and the message should go away after you drive the car for a couple of short trips. If it doesn't go out after a few driving cycles, it needs to go in for service. If it's blinking, that says an engine misfire has been detected, and again, it needs to go in for service.

Did you access the maintenance menu and check the settings by pressing info?

The maintenance settings have nothing to do with a CEL. If it was a maintenance reminder, the notice will pop up on the nav screen and not the dash.

I don't agree. This "warning" is controlled by the 2 buttons on the right of the dash. I had the same scare until I acknowledged it & reset the warning.
Maybe it is a newer feature as I have a 2012.

My car only has a "service engine soon" (ie CEL) light. Does yours have a SES and CEL light?

The OP should just bring it to a dealer. Free diagnosis and repair, that is unless the OP never did any oil changes or routine maintenance required on the car.

I have those maintenance reminder things on my 2009 as well. But they are just calendar/mileage entries - no correlation to actual engine trouble lights or codes.
