ugh...rearended...

I was at a dead stop at a light on Friday night. WHAM...got run in to, probably 20 mph or so. The other driver got a careless / reckless driving ticket, and already admitted full fault (coincidentally, the same insurance carrier,) so I'm all squared away with that aspect.

I'm taking the car in for the initial inspection with an adjuster on Thursday, and it'll get dropped off to the body shop immediately after.

Is there anything I should be looking out for?

Immediately after the accident, I had difficulty shifting (auto) into park. I've driven it 4x since, and no issues.

The bumper is pretty jacked up..hanging off on both sides, still attached, but barely. One exhaust hanger torn off, it looks like, and the muffler is hanging way down / the tip got bent.

- this is an aftermarket exhaust. It wasn't declared previously to my insurance company. Anyone have any idea how this works? Will I end up losing out here, and having to re-buy the system, having only been compensated for one stock muffler? (I contacted top speed, and they will not sell just one muffler.)

car seems to be running / driving normally, except one time it felt like it was getting "stuck" on the road - I think it may have been the exhaust hanger catching on a rotating wheel.

Any advice / guidance is much appreciated.

Thanks!!

Doesn't sound as bad as the other person that just posted up a rear-ended G as the same time as you. Sounds like there could be something up with the rear diff? Could have pushed he drive axle up against the trans - definitley something to mention when you take it to the adjuster and they throw it in a shop.

As for your exhaust, because you didn't declare it, it will be hard for them to pay the aftermarket component. Now.... seeing as the Top Speed system isn't an expensive system, you might get lucky and the shop that is doing repairs can order it for you. My only concern is that Top Speed may not have the system you need in stock. I know they replenished their supply but I don't know exactly how many they have.

Depending on your company, some companies have a specified amount of "aftermarket parts" already provided for in your coverage. I've called my insurance company religiously to update them whenever I add high-dollar parts. You're probably still going to be covered. I think my included base coverage was in the neighborhood of 1-2K.

I would think if you have the receipts for the exhaust and it was on the car during the accident it should be covered, just like aftermarket wheels, etc.

Sorry to hear about that accident, always a PITA trying to get everything in order then having to wait for the repairs, then having to go over it w/ a fine tooth comb for the proper paint match, body panel alignment, etc.
And your car was getting just about where you wanted it too

I feel your pain, went through this back in April, 5weeks and $8k in damages and it was back almost as new. Our state doesn't have Diminished value precedent so I didn't follow up w/ that but I'd look into it if your state has precedent.

Damn! 2 sedan rear ended threads posted at the same time??? Crazy.

Take it to the most reputable shop in your area. See where guys with show cars and expensive rides take their cars. Trust them to do their job well. You don't have to take it to a shop recommended as a "preferred" shop by the insurance company.

OEM muffler costs more than Top Speed, you should be OK there.

Damn I'm sorry to hear that Keith... I'm sure you are going to make your G look just as good as prior to getting rear ended

Might be able to contact vendor & get copies, and let your insurance carrier know of the updates, couldn't hurt.
