Back up camera

Hello all! I'm a newbie with a few questions!

I have a 09 g37x
I was in a accident last month due to snow and when my car was being pulled out my trunk was damaged so it was replaced. The replacement trunk has a backup camera, which my car previously didn't have. So my question is, is this a simple connection? I assume the wiring is there in the trunk just maybe not in the rest of the car? I would really like to get it hooked up!

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Sam

Welcome to the forum. Do you have the navigation package?

If my car came with the navigation from the factory, is the car pre-wired for the camera?

I can't say for sure, but it is likely. Many of the non-sports models come pre-wired for paddle shifters, after all.

Ah I see!

One of these weekend I will tear my trunk apart to see if it has the camera harness pre-installed. I have a feeling I'll need a seperate module that will manage the camera and also run the wire to the trunk.

LOGICALLY, it would make sense for the wiring to be there, because it would be cheaper to make one standard harness. Take off the back panel on your trunk and see if the camera harness is there.

If not, you would need to run the following:
  • Rear view camera (RVC) video cable to front of vehicle
  • RVC 12v power to front of vehicle (fuse box)
  • Reverse wire tap (to reverse lights within tails)
  • Grounding wire (somewhere on trunk lid

I've had to do this exact install on the 2012 Jetta I had before. The only thing I didn't get were the "approximation lines" (the yellow lines that tell you where you'll end up).

Let us know what is discovered by checking the wiring in the trunk lid!

No I do not have nav... I'm assuming it's not pre wired since I didn't have it before

Thank you! I'll have my husband check it out and let everyone know!

I could be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure I've been in a sedan that does HAVE a backup camera, but does NOT have navigation.

That's possible, but I'm confused. If the car doesn't come with a backup camera, and as the OP stated, does not have nav. Does it even have a screen to display the backup imagine ON?

Why would a sedan with no nav and no camera have a screen? Please clarify if I'm wrong.

This is what you need bro.

Pac-Audio.com Product Details | iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future

I cant find the threat at the moment but basically this unit connects between the LCD screen and your AUX in the glove box. When you put it in reverse, the AUX kicks on and your camera works.

You can find the unit cheaper on line.

I'm still trying to establish if there is even a screen.

That answers that, okay. I feel more confident in saying that OP probably has the wiring to hook it up.
