Mod quote

I'm in the process of doing my first mods on my 2011 six speed sedan. Bought the car used a couple of months ago with 28k miles and it already had the tanabe axle back muffler.

I'm looking to having the Stillen Gen 3 intake and the FI HFC installed, then tuned (uprev).

There's a shop not too far from me (Z fever) who quoted me $900 to install everything which the tune and before and after dyno.
I spoke to the owner in detail and he has high praises for the 3.7.

I thought it was a fair price and was wondering what you all thought.

so gen 3 and hfc installed plus the tune program for $900
that's a fair price since the tune is the most expensive part and you will save yourself the pain of installing that Gen 3.

make sure they run a stock dyno (not 100% since it has the axleback), then after intake and hfc and then again after tune.

btw, which program will be used for tuning?

Figure $500 for an UpRev tune, 2+ hours for installation of the cats, and 3+ hours for installation of the CAI (because bumper). At a reasonable $80/hr rate, that totals up to $900.

So yeah, that's fair. And not a lot of wiggle room for problems.

I had my OEM cats off and FI cats on in about an hour. That included removing air intakes to break loose the top bolt on the OEM cats.

$900 is a good price. If thats "out the door". With all the mods and the dyno time it's very reasonable.

That's exactly how they are going to do the dyno's. I'm going to be there with them for the day to watch the process.

They are going to use the Osiris tune.

I was thinking about that the other day, in the context of my Spring install. Removal of the OEM cats requires top-access? Is that right?

You could easily get it off from under the car, IF AND ONLY IF, your bolts aren't rusted on.

It was honestly easier for me to remove my Takeda tubes, make a super long extension, and break the bolts off. Then I just used an impact to pack the bolts off. I'd recommend going from the top, but that's just me. It was definitely quicker and easier to apply torque to the bolt.

You're better off taking out the intakes, my friend. It would be an ordeal from underneath the car to get at the top bolts. PB Blaster is going to be you're ally in this mod. Even the cat to Y-pipe bolts were a pain. Use a floor jack to prop up the Y-pipe also. It keeps them from moving on you when you try to break free those 4 nuts.

I think 900 is a pretty fair price for all that! I recently had my Berk HFCs installed, the shop owner initially wanted $200, but he ended up having to drill out 2 bolts so he charged me an extra $40.

As far as the up rev tune goes, most people can get that done for around $500-$600. Unfortunately for me, the biggest tuner around me charges $1100 for the tune That being said, he is a complete wizard with the program. He doesn't really have any competition here, so that's probably why he can get away with charging so much.

Also, here is a video on how the cats are installed on our cars if anyone is curious.

I'm sure it includes everything but I will double check.
He said the bolts are not of good quality and may break and he may have to charge and extra $90 if that happens. I WILL be watching the whole process.

Don't the cats come with new bolts?

If they do, most mechanics would just whip out the torch anyway, so...

I purchased mine used from a forum member and I didn't have bolts or gaskets. I picked up some bolts, nuts, washers and lock washers from CarQuest, and made a gasket for the header to cat flange.

I wouldn't ever reuse bolts anyway. Get some new ones on there. Depending on how much moisture, road grime and the remainder of the elements your G has seen, torching the bolts off will be a 50/50 chance.

I was lucky enough to be able to break them free. Using a torch around the header/cat flange, with PB blaster all over the place doesn't settle well with me.....
