I got DampRid Odor Genie from Home Depot and it's awesome. I smoke in my car and people still tell me how good it smells in it when they get in. It been in my car for 2 months already and it still smells great. Whatever you do, don't get those liquid ones that stick on your vent. Had one of those in my previous car that leaked in the summer and the liquid melted my dash like it was acid. smh

I never put air freshener in my car. Back when I had my Volvo I took it to a car wash and asked for no air freshener and they put piña colada in it and I was ticked. That was the first and last time they ever did it too. Any food that I get for take out goes straight into the trunk in the OEM envelope net. No drinks without a cap are allowed inside the cabin unless its water. Call me **** but my last G was 4 years old with 60k on it and you could still smell the leather like it was new, not nearly as strong as it would be if it was brand new, but I always had comments about it, the same with my current G.

****. (You said we could! )

That said, if you're properly conditioning your leather to keep it in good condition, you're not smelling the new leather smell, you're smelling the conditioner. The leather comes from the factory covered in silicon-based polymers to keep the leather soft, smooth and stain-free, so you're smelling an additive and not the conditioners and tannins found in normal leather products. Much like the "new car" smell is just plasticene evaporating out of the vinyl, which is actually a carcinogen and is regularly linked to cancer when folks are regularly exposed to it.

To top it off I eat and drink in my car, don't use toilet seat covers to sit down in it, let my dog ride shotgun, etc and have no issues with odors, stains, etc.

In fact, I could detail it and you wouldn't know the difference between my car and '11G37S's car... and if he isn't conditioning his leather regularly and properly (IE: No silicone!), you'd probably prefer my interior over his -- The difference being I put my car through hell and enjoy it, but still take care of it rather than just treating it like a museum piece.

One thing to AVOID are the liquid and gel-based air fresheners. Aside from the issue ciscoizi mentioned, that evaporated liquid/gel has to go SOMEWHERE. The result is typically akin to being a smoker, you end up with a film across your glass and the rest of your interior. My wife uses the clip-ons from Bath & Body Works, and I'm constantly combating that and the layer of hand lotion on her EX35's steering wheel.

Myself? I used the Driven (by Refresh) Titanium Rain clip-sticks that can go in your vents -- and when they're not in or wear out, my car still smells like new

You're probably right. To each their own. I just prefer to keep it clean all the time which allows me to spend less time detailing the interior. The most that I do to my interior is use AMMO lather then reseal it with a conditioner. Even then it doesn't take very long at all.

Plus with having a black interior I spend even less time on the interior than I did with the stone interior I use to have, I will never have another light colored interior again.

EDIT: If you're trying to get a certain smell out of your car I would suggest finding a detailer that has a ozone machine to get rid of it. Any of the ideas in the video will help, the ozone machine will work the best though.

Way to go... I try to do the same but well... I do make exceptions for myself here and there since it is my car and I'm the one who puts a lot of work into keeping it clean.... I usually dont eat in my car, rarely. yet air freshner is always nice
